Post Way Off Topic (wine)

I am trying to obtain 4 cases of wine from Trader Joe's. This wine is called Charles Shaw and is only aviable at this store. I understand that Trader Joe's does not do e-transactions or mail order. Can someone help me out in the Michigan area?

I would check with major shipping companies and USPS first. I had a lot of problems shipping a bottle of wine via USPS, UPS, FedEx, and Airborne Express about 2 years ago. Sorry I don't remember the details, but I recommend you check first.

Yep....archaic alcholic beverage laws are nearly everywhere in the USA.

Thanks to the Amendment which repealed Prohibition and set the control back in the States' hands with a no common sense approach whatsoever.

Speaking of no common sense - who in the hell devised the 'Dry' County anyway?!?!

Chucker-

As a fellow 82 Chiffon White owner living in Michigan, I'd be happy to help. They're over on Woodward right? I'll be over there today. I'll see if I can pick thos up for you. Do you have a price limit, or anything else?

Give me a shout on my cell after 8am today. 734-837-7908.

Just did a search, found their two locations. Farminton Hills and Royal Oak.

If Andrew has trouble shipping them I might be able to help. We're headed for Charlevoix at the end the month and just might have room for a few cases of wine in the back of the the A4 Avant - although it's amazing how much stuff 3 people 'need' for a week's vacation.

Aren't there a couple really good restaurants in Ellsworth? I seem to remember some TV celeb goes up there every year for his wedding anniversary.

Wow thanks for all of the replies. Bill I will take you up on the offer if you have room in the car. I need 2 cases of Chard one case of Cab and one case of Merlot. I will send you a private e-mail. And yes there are two world famous resturants in Ellsworth. Tapawingo 1-231-588-7971 and the Rowe Inn 1-231-588-7351. You will need reservations at both and the Rowe Inn is a little more relaxed and easier on the wallet. Kinda ironic that you can spend $1,000 on a bottle of wine in both of these resturants but you can't get gas after 7:00 p.m. in Ellsworth.

There is currently an enormous excess of grapes in California . That has driven prices way , way down . Too many grapes makes too much grape juice which results in too much wine . End result is a lot of "better" wine is being put in bottles with lessor labels / brands and being sold at times BELOW cost . The wineries are being faced with the dilemma ....dump it literally , store it IF they have capacity but costs $$ , bottle and sell for under cost to salvage some $$$ and wait until more farmers rip out the grape vines and switch to Almond growing .......once supply shrinks enough prices will rise . It is worth noting that the Charles Shaw that made the big splash 2-3 months ago .....is probably not the same juice being sold today .......

I love that stuff! But the Merlot far surpasses the Cab. The merlot makes a good "house" red wine, but the cab is pretty weak for a cab. The couple that lives next door to me works for Trader Joes (both of them). They recommend the Chardonnay and the Merlot.
Just an FYI.

Out here we call that vintage "2-buck Chuck", cause that's about what a bottle of Charles costs at Trader Joe's in California.

Excellent value - the chard is pretty good, and I'll agree with Beth that the merlot is the best of their low-priced lineup.
