Need engine or short block!
I unfortunately had a very unexpected result of a minor routine maintenance. My local shop had removed my intake on my 87 S4, replaced some hoses and sandblasted the intake to get some of the ugly looking "paint chips" off it. They unfortunately forgot to clean the inside of my intake after the procedure.
To make a long story short, the engine did NOT survive the test drive.
I am now looking for a replacement engine or short block. If anyone has an engine, please let me know.
regards,
Sab.

I just bought an '88 AT parts car that had front end damage. It had 145K miles on it. I talked to the PO after I bought it from the insurance company auction and he said he ran strong both before AND he had to shut it off after the accident, so apparently no damage. I haven't had a chance to do any checks on it but was planning on selling the engine since it's not one of the 'parts' I need. Email me at jim928@ptd.net if you're interested. I'm in Allentown, PA so we'd have to figure out how to ship it as well.

Sab,
Sorry, Didn't mean to jump on Jim's motor availability. He, is of course, an honorable man and would not let me buy the motor out from under you... unless there was ...snort,
...giggle... a significant lump of cash involved, you know... 5 or 6 bucks.
All joking(?) aside, if those people from the shallow end of the gene pool got the mains then... they got the rods...****! anything that spins got hammered.
That cutting sand is some serious stuff. Actually, considered HAZMAT here in West Texas and we have plenty of sand.
If you don't have an end user or someone who wants the trashed engine for total tear down and clean up you can always paint it red and use it as a mailbox base. Otherwise, sadly, it's just a lump of metal now.
You have my respect, Sab, I would have been booked for Felony Assault/Mayhem/Attempted Murder after the walk back to that shop.

Jay,
That cutting sand is a medium that can be used over and over and over.
Not to dump on Sab's chances of getting something for it...that sand, if it circulated for even a few minutes moved from the top on down then back up again, is suspended in the oil and, consequently, went where the oil goes.
I'm not the voice of experience on this subject but I would, heartily, recommend you talk to some engine builders about the chances of getting that crap boiled out.
Additionally, ask them if the rotating, bearing, bushing surfaces, chains, guides... in the oil path would have been harmed.
If so what will it cost to replace all of these items?
Jay, I would err on the side of safety here and ask some experienced builders if they would 'WANT' to warranty that particular engine after a rebuild.
In order of viciousness payback as a teenager went as followed:
1.Egging. 2.Coil wire removal. 3.Tire valve core removal. 4. Valve grinding compound or tool lathe chips down the oil filler neck.
Never seen a rebuild after the wrench felt and took a look at the oil.
Wish you and Sab luck in any case.
You looking to build a 6.4?

John,
Sorry, didn't know you were looking for an engine for pattycakes.......and I'm deeply wounded by your comments.."5 or 6 bucks" indeed...now $10 or 11, that's an entirely different story :-)
Seriously, if Sab and I don't reach an agreement, I'll let you know but he has first call on it.
As far as what to do w the short block, there was a thread on the maillist recently on engine block coffee tables. Just polish the outside up some, add some glass, and voila, automotive interior decorating...plus a heck of a conversation piece..."let me tell you about the shop that made this table possible". Not making fun of your misfortune, Sabastian...it really is outrageous that they did this.

Excellent points John (regarding the blast sand remvaal).
Now...you been inside my head again (re: 6.4L build up).
Gawd knows I've looked at the DEVEk cataolg - researched the valve sizes, checked the crank stroke values - looked at Sterlings webpage (thanks Sterling!!!)...and crunched the numbers again and again - and compared them to the SC mod. It has almost come to the point where I've built the 'ideal' motor in my head at least a 100 times.
Oh well...anyway - just pursueing an avenue - probably nothing will come of it. But if that block should become available for a reasonable price - I might decide to tinker a bit (could ya blame me?)
Besides - I work in an Industry where we have all sorts of neat stuff - and neat tools (ie washers/etc.). This could be considered a 'challenge' by some I work with.
We shall see...if it pans out - I'll let you know.
Best Regards-

Sab,
The upgrade you always wanted. GTS motor complete, low miles (~35K, I recall). Includes ALL computers and wiring harness, ready for drop-in install. (Though I'd probably do the oil pan gasket while its out, just to be safe.) I'd have taken it myself (and still might) but I'm a 2V guy.
If you (or anyone else) is interested, call Garrity 314.423.9164. (No, I don't get a cut of the action).

Thanks for the info Greg,
The GTS engine sounds good, hopefully not over my budget... I tried to call, but no answer, do you have another number for me? Please e-mail me directly, at least I'll get first pick at it.
regards,
Sab.

There have been two engines that I've heard of for sale recently. JP Rodkey had an S4 engine without the intake stuff on it for sale, and Ed Ruiz had a GT short block for sale. I don't know if either of these are still available or not though.
JP's e-mail is: gtshead@ix.netcom.com
Ed's is: eds928gt@yahoo.com

Thanks everyone, I was able to make a deal with JP Rodkey. And the shop (which initially caused the problem...) agreed to buy his '88 S4 87k miles engine and promised to get my car back on the road. Things might just work out OK.
thanks & regards,
Sab.
