Post Antenna Replacements

My power antenna has finally become too tired to make it down one more time. So, I hae two questions.

Are there aftermarket antennas that will bolt on (I don't care about OEM for something like this) and how the heck do you access the antenna -- from the whell well?

Bradster,
There is a post on the Nichols site.
However it seems as though this might be on the tough side to replace.
Alternatives:
1.I can give you the E-address of someone who is parting out his 80'or, 81'and you can negotiate.
2. I would simply adapt/run a fixed antenna
out of the same location as your current powered one for two reasons. 1, No power draw loss to the ant. would be required.
2.The ant. wire would already be in place so you wouldn't have to tear the interior up to route the cable.
Your call!

The antenna is pretty easy to access, put car
on stands and remove wheel for more room.
Just pull the rear wheel well liner out and
you'll see it a couple bolts and wires. The
nut that holds the mast portion on should be
removed with the proper tool but if you're
careful you can loosen it w/o scratching it
up.
The OEM antenna was built by Hirschmann and
they still offer a suitable replacement unit.

These units are on E-bay pretty frequently
or your local foriegn parts store should carry or be able to order them.
New masts only are also available and may be
all you need if the motor is still working.

Bradster,

I just replaced my power antena with a Hirschman (power) unit commonly listed on ebay. It's usually listed in the 928 section and cost me around $50-$60 shipped to my door. It bolted up perfectly and was a fairly easy job with the rear tire removed. I tested it and it works great.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I just ordered a replacement off E-Bay as some of you suggested. We''' see how it works.

I just had my antenna sheered off when my brother took it to a car wash without turning the radio off (and without telling me). I ordered a replacement from pap parts for about $30.00. I didnt even have to take the wheel off. If you want to simply replace the antenna, undue the nut on the top of the base. Pull the old antenna out, and feed the new antenna wire in. turn the Radio off, and the motor will retract the antenna, put the nut back on, and turn the radio off and on again to ensure it is fully retracted.
