Post Engine Ground Wire Question

While poking around the engine bay yesterday, I found a short ground wire attached to the engine, but not to the chassis. This one is on the driver's side of the engine about 1/4 way down the canshaft cover...cable about 4 inches in length. I found the part in PET, but cannot find a good picture of it in the service manuals.

The chassis side lug was broken...looks like it might have been the way for some time. I tried to find the broken end under a bolt or nut, but did not see anything obvious. I think it was attached to the bolt that secures the driver's side ignition coil to the car. Just wondering if this is the correct placement. Anyone confirm this or know where the correct attachment point is?

I am not positive on the Euro model, but it should be the same as the us in the area. There are two grounds, one from each coil going to the engine. I actually had the same problem that you have, I went and bought a new piece of wire and connectors and replaced the whole part. This was with assistance from John Dozman. I think I paid about $1.75 for the parts. Just be sure to match the gauge of wire for safe keeping.

I do need to check the other side as well...ran out of time last evening, but will do so tonight. I was planning to try to re-use the existing ground wire...just try to cut off the broken connector and splice on a new one. I could not find a Porsche PN on the part...just wondering if this might have been replaced a some point in the past.

Might be worth replacing the whole thing with a new one, as the plastic insulation and heat-shrink material is quite rigid with heat and age. The lug connector has "6-10" stamped on it...most likely gauge size range for the connector. It looks like a 6 or 8 gauge cable to me. I'll make sure to match up the wire sizes if I replace the whole unit.

Thanks for your help.

Hiya,
You are correct - the lead goes from the cam cover to the spark coil fixing.
