Small successes
I had an opportunity to work on the car yesterday, and I'm happy to report that I can now adjust the temperature to other temps besides Cold and Way Hot. I replaced the non-existant external sensor that was supposed to be (and now is) in the driver's front fender, above the brake cooling air duct.
About all I have left to do in the no-workey dept is the gas gauge, and switches for the sunroof, hatch release, and rear wiper.

I was told it should be routed up into the fender above the brake duct. I installed mine there, but I could not find a way to route the ducting from the alternator around the brake cooling duct; there is no room. I was reading that the alternator cooling fan is supposed to draw air across the sensor throught the ducting... Hmmm. You should see a double-hump bracket mounted to the back side of the area (front of the wheel well) about half way up the surface. I used a plastic zip tie and just hung the sensor from the bracket and plugged it into the car harness plug.
The sensor itself looks like a tin toilet paper roll that's been cut in half with a sheathed two wire electrical cord. It is the same diameter as the alternator cooling air duct, appx. 3 in. It has a bi-metallic thermocouple bayonette inside the tube. It has a connector wire pair with a cylindrical male plug with two small pins. This plugs into the car's system harness female connector that is routed under and behind the driver's headlight bucket.
Anyway, it may not be installed "correctly", but it works.
