Post Alternator cooling hose replacement.

Has anyone tried anything other than a Porsche hose? I can't find anything as durable as a factory hose and the local auto parts stores do not carry a 36 in. heat riser tube.

Jim,

At Advance Auto, The hose is Mighty Flow stock# 96034 2" (51mm) X 36" (915mm) preheater hose.

It will fit inside the existing loop hose and inside the alternator cover.

Cool

I got mine from J.C. Whitney. It is a VW part for the old heater system. It will also work on the old 911 heater system. You will have to cut it to length as I still have a piece about 2 foot long hanging in the garage. Tah Mah Hal acording to my wife.
Look for the ID rather than length. Should work at a cheaper price.

I bought a 3" lenghth of 2.25" ID intake tubing from AutoZone. It was enough to take care of both of my 78's. BTW didn't the later models have a temperature sensor lead connected to this hose?

Thanks for the responses. I'll call AutoZone since we don't have an Advance Auto store.

There is a temp sensor near the "loop" part of the hose. *Usually* that part of the hose is still intact on 928's, the missing hose is the part people cut off when there is a missing alternator cover and the hose is hanging down. If you search around in the fender behind the panel, it's likely there is still part of the hose there (the part with the OAT sensor). You can attatch the new hose to it.

I was unable to find the 2.25" ID intake tubing at Autozone, but they had the preheater hose and it fit fine. Thanks for the help.

It cost around $8.
