Post Phantom Fan - Magic Blower Syndrome

As I was reading through all these Technical Bulletins that I have I came across the info in the pictures below. Just thought this might be useful so we can archive or if someone wants to post it elsewhere - Nichols page, etc? Dont link to my site because I delete stuff here regularly.

Cover, eh? Know where you might be able to get a replacement?

This was interesing for me to find because when I took my bimetal switch out there was no cover. I adjusted the thing about 5 times with no luck, finally bought a new one.

But I just looked and it is not the same part number as the one listed. And guess what, it still does it, just not as often and with less blower speed

If anyone can read the diagram listed and advise us on how to convert our old switch I would give it a try since I have two of them

I wonder when this technical bulletin came out, because it's exactly what I did and posted when I fixed the blower problem in my car several years ago. There was no cover on my resistor pack either when I did it. There's some information about it at: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...ols/tip022.htm

Here's some of what I posted back then:

It looks like the newer style of resistor pack should be able to be used in earlier cars, but the connector that goes to the resistor pack must be modified. The cover of the connector snaps off revealing the wires and round hollow terminals. On my '88 car, the terminal that is in the #8 position would have to be removed from it's spot and taped up. There are two wires going to this terminal. They both remain connected to the terminal, but the terminal isn't used. Next the terminal that is in the #6 position is moved to the #8 position, and the connector's cover snapped back on. According to the wiring diagrams in the shop manuals, this makes the wiring the same as that on the '90 and up cars that use the newer style resistor pack.

Thanks Mike, I have to read what you said a few times and then try it on my old one.

The first bulletin is dated April 22, 1988 and the second is dated October 14, 1988.

They new a long time ago

Thumbs up

Jerry,
The fix was on the Nichols site. I think it was the number two fix for this problem behind the relay.
But I shall cherish the schematic, always.
Thanks.
