Default Paint Shop in Charleston, SC?

Hi everyone!

Can anyone recommend a paint shop in Charleston, SC or nearby that I can take the 79' to have a new coat sprayed on? Hoping for someone reasonable.. (I know.. "paint job" and "reasonable" should not go in same sentence) Did think about Maaco..

Thanks!

I do not know of any in that area since I am in Ohio however you can find an excellent paint job at a reasonable price. I paint cars in the $1500 range using the best Base/Clear DuPont has to offer out of my home as a side job.

Go to some car shows, talk around there is somebody who does the same down there that will be glad to help you out. Maybe check out www autobodystore com there are a few home hobbiest just like me there. Here is a TTA I just finished and shipped back to Chicago.

WOW another 928 in Charleston Hello Curt and welcome to the List. I'm am also looking to get some body work done. I have been looking at body shops in the area and there are a great many. You can get any price paint job you wish to pay for with just as many different qualitys. I used to work for Baker Porsche and also the Porsche Port when it was in Charleston. If you want I can PM you one of the painters that was factory trained at the port who has painted many new "Factory damaged" 928s maybe we can get him to do a package deal for us. At the Porsche dealer we used Signature body shop on Bellgrade Ave both will be slightly on the pricey side though. Hope to see you around town.

I'm interested too! I'm in Florence, SC but Charleston is about as close to civilization as we're able to find around here.

Yeah that's the problem with Charleston.. we're on an island and porsche work is kinda hard to find. Although Sirius motorsports has done me very well so far..

I have used West Ashley Collision many times.
A4sfed928:I know all the guys at Baker quite well, Autometrics, and my close friend Stan at Rennsport Charleston. John Halicheck painted my 924s when it was new at the PDI center (when it was there). I could use a respray, but his paint is so much beter than original I just keep polish on it.
curt928: The guys at sirius are not there anymore. Try Rennsport. Stan is one of the best in the country.

Whalebird we should have crossed paths some where down the line. Were you a Porsche tech? I have not seen John since I left the PDI port. JAY and Chris started a body shop of their own but they are wrapped up in the fast pace work of insurance now.

Speaking of Stan I tried to buy the old clapped out 928 someone left there several times but he wants too much for it.

I was a Porsche tech. Started at Autometrics in the late 80s, Race team with Stan early 90s. Porsche/MB tech at Baker mid-ninties - '02, Rennsport again for next three years. Currently in NC running family business unrelated to automotive industry. Jay and Chris do some of the best bodywork out there. I am glad to here they are covered up in insurance work as that will hopefully pay them what they deserve. My 24s is the non sunroof car that I bought from Jack Morse (Porsche). I was at Rennsport when that 928 was towed in from European Road and racing after a year of throwing parts at it. It was struck by lightning and I was able to get it running as the crank signal was being robbed from the ignition by the instrument cluster. Car needed trans work, straight body however.
