Default One touch window (maybe)

I know this has been discussed before but this post is a littel different than the others.

I was working on my wife's/second/winter car ('98 Mercury Mystique, V6, LS) and it has a one touch down window option. I have posted this in a tread before but comments were made that it would require a complete button and relay transplant to make it work on the 928. At that point I left it at that and didn't think much of it till a few days ago.

Had a little closer look at the Mystique's button and noticed that the down only had one setting not two like many GM's do. Also the one touch down option has been acting up a little when the weather is humid (only goes down if you hold the button), then a day later it would go down all the way, as soon as I touch it. This makes me beleive that the relay is what controlls the one touch down and this car has an always "one touch down" system.

If this is true, it can be easily transferred into the 928. The relay for this option is located in the driver door and looking at the manual, it is a very simple little unit.

I know there are some people here that are interested in making this option for the 928 so maybe this would help them.

Default twindows

There is an aftermarket company that makes a product caled twindow, sold primarily thru car alarm dealers. This product can convert any power windows to one-touch down. It can also roll the windows up upon arming and down upon disarming. They can even be set to roll up on arming and then "burp" down an inch or so to let heat escape. I sold them a few years ago. Any alarm shop in your area should be able to help you out.
P.S. other companies have knocked off this product for their own lines, but this is the original name brand unit.

Weird that this comes up. Ang's '90 has this for both windows and the sunroof. Was this not a standard option on the later cars? My '88 doesn't.

My 90 also has it. There is a thread about it here somewhere.

90 they added a window controller and one touch down. Changed the switch as well as it no longer carried current.

With a little luck mine will be ready by January. It provides both one touch up and down and sunroof open and close. It does all at the same time vs. the one at a time factory.

928's windows are wired differently than most cars - but it can be probably be adapted to work - there was a thread on the paragon express-up/down unit which did not work - but by flipping the power connections and motor connection it was possible to make it work. I suspect the same may apply here.

Imre - do you have a circuit diagram for the ford version?

Alan,

I'l only have a Haynes manual for it and those usually have very generic diagrams. i'll check it over the weekend to see if it has anything related to the window motors.

My other cars have this option so until you have one with it, it will be difficult to understand why it’s such a nice option. Besides that, it’s easier on the switches too. 928s that didn’t have this option have the full load go thought the switch and that can, over time, burn up the contacts so anything that removes load going thought it is a bonus.
