Anti-lock warning light
For no obvious reason, the anti-lock warning light came on today, and won't go back off again. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong? I think maybe it's time I bought the shop manuals...

See your owner's manual first Ian.
You could try resetting it by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a couple minutes.
If it's still there, you probably have a anti-lock system failure of some sort.
Several folks here can walk you through the troubleshooting process.
Try the reset first, then let us know if it fixed it or not.

The user's manual was the first place I looked. It wasn't very helpful - "If the antilock warning light comes on, take your car to the dealer immediately," or words to that effect.
It now appears to be intermittent. It went off last night for about 20 minutes. I de-greased the engine compartment the day before this started, so I suspect I may have gotten some water into a connector somewhere.

greg nichols site has a great trouble shooting step by step that checks all the relays. Usually the relays are a fault and there are a number of them. I found one defective relay in the fuse panel that was the cause of my light coming on.

Ian,
I would suggest that you check your fuses and relays first as recommended as well as Greg's Nichols site.
If you visit Porsche Specalists web site at: http://www.928gt.com/928specs/87-88relay.htm
or 89,90 or 91 relay.htm, depending upon your model you will be able to identify the relays and fuses concerned.
The relay for the PSD system is located in the wheel well in the trunk, forward right hand side.
If you are a member of 928 Owners Club they have a very good write up on servicing the PSD System Flushing. The pictures will give you an idea where to look to check the fluid levels and operation. (the fluid level may be low or empty?).
The PSD is also connected to the ABS system, so check whether the ABS is in-operable as well (check warning light).
As another guide to the PSD also check the previous message on the forum relating to the PSD system, dated around the end of December 2001.
Hope this helps.
