Default Hood shock location?

Does the hood shock have the rod facing up towards the hood or down. Meaning the gas portion is it on the bottom or top!
Thanks wife is holding the hood for me as we speak!

As per 928Intl:

"When installing new hood or hatch shocks, always mount large end up. Installing shocks with the large end down will shorten their life."

might be a bit late but its a good idea to add a bit of grease to the ***** so they dont rust if the socket gets wet, plus it makes for smotther operation..
One other caveat, if you can compress the shock into the ground with one habd its a hood shock if it takes 2 hands to hold the shock to compress it into the ground its a hatch shock, they both look the same but have a different purpose and if you use hatch shocks on the hood then you will bend the hood/***** studs.
Another note worn hatch shocks also make good hood shocks, if they are worn a bit, but follow the above advice on the compression test

I got sets of new hatch and hood shocks and of course mixed them up when I was fitting them!

Realised my mistake almost as soon as I put the hatch ones on the hood - it seemed very hard to shut after all! The hood was much harder to pop open than normal (presumably it was pulling hard against the catch). Was lucky that there seemed to be no bending to the hood or the ball/studs. I'm surprised the hood didn't just fold up when I pushed it down with the hatch shocks fitted.

Lesson learnt.
