Smile I am a new owner and life is good !

Hello, my name is Rob... and I own a 928.

After searching the better part of a year, lurking and sometimes posting on Rennlist, surfing countless 928 sites and various automobile reselling sites. I have brought my new baby home.

The car is an 1989 S4, in beautiful Silver Metallic with a cream colored interior. The PPI came back fine with just a few items to look into (mostly cosmetic) and the PO's maintenance records had been kept up to date showing a timing belt and water pump replacement in December of 2000. The interior is alright... but with a little TLC, cleaner and elbow grease it should look very nice. The car has had it's rear wing painted to match the body (very well done) and it's mirrors were replaced with GTS units. It currently has an aftermarket steering wheel in it, but is kind of rough. I think I will replace it with a Momo "Fighter" model. The rims are 18" Turbo Twists.

I look forward to many fine years of quality driving, swearing at the beast and talking with as many of you as possible. I love this...

Thanks guys. You know Tony, your website was one of the sites that inspired me to go ahead with me search for a 928. Before I started looking seriously for a car I thought that owning a 928 would involve never working on it myself and that all repair / modifications were done by a "qualified" Porsche mechanic. After seeing your site and I think the pages that really did it for me were the ones on wheel refinishing and brake caliper repainting. That really gave me a sense of being able to do these things on my own. Everyone on this site is so devoted to keeping the 928 marque alive and swimming (shark-talk). Thanks

Hi Sharkbert:

Are you going to join us at the second annual "Shartks in the Park" gathering on May 4?

If you are not on Bill Ball's mailing list, yet, please email him at billb_msn@msn.com . This way he can keep you up to date. He also has a website on the event: http://www.billsworkshop.com/P928S4/park/sharks_in_the_park_II.htm. Expect to see at least 20 928s, maybe as many as 50...

BTW: Bill just lives around the corner from you, and also has an '89 S4...

Jerry,

I see that you also have the painted wing and GTS mirrors. That really adds to the overall look of the car (IMHO). I also saw in your site that you went with the Jager shift ****. I am looking at their site now and I think they deserve some of my money !

Nicole,

Yes, hopefully if nothing at work comes up I will be there. I received the directions and email on this from you a few weeks ago (while I was still looking...). Now if I can just get the beast's interior cleaned up by then. What do you recommend for the leather ?

I'm not an expert on leather care - I just use Lexol. The best care is probably to keep the car out of the Califorina sun... ;-)

See you!

Sharkbert. Yes, this is the first car that I have not kept completely stock. I keep adding things to my 928. I just put some Porsche patches on my floor mats

Also, I cant say enough good things about P. Jager. I have the shifter, button stickers and am looking at his new ideas of door handles and button trim. I do my best to support the continuity of the 928 The shifter really is a nice addition as is the MOMO steering wheel. It makes for an improved driving experience.

Thumbs up

Tom,
All looks very nice.. OK I'm going to bite.. what did you do with the air vent surround (in metalic trim?)... what else is going on in the console... looks a bit custom elsewhere...

Also how do you like the aluminum pedal covers compared to rubber ?

Tom: With this steering wheel in place, you absolutely need a tip shifter from Jager Engineering...

alan,
the vent surround is just the reflection from the flash, nothing going on there.
the console has a cd controller and display unit, and my blau toronto is in the dash./
also have an arm-1 installed in the section above the radio (can't really see it but its like dave roberts in his 85 euro)
the pedals are cool (car came that way) and seem to grip fine.
nicole,
interesting you should say that, i just got the tip shifter today in the mail along with the full leather boot. will be interesting to see what it turns out like./
thanks for the tip on editing. :-)

Tom, the Momo Fighter looks very nice. I think that is what I am going to get.

Jerry, I agree that the Jager products look very nice. My "T" shift lever is a little loose so I was also going to go with the Jager "Full Boot Kit" and possibly the "GTS Chrome Tip". I have ordered the button covers and the stainless switch surrounds.

Today, I polished the rings surrounding the door locks. They looked like they were painted flat black and had quite a few scratches on them. I decided to do something about it. My other hobby is scale modeling so I use a lot of sanding / polishing mediums. I have a kit called the "Micro-Mesh Polishing System" that consists of a variety of sanding cloths ranging from about 800 to 12,000 grit (in increments of 2000). I masked off the lock surrounds with masking tape. I pulled up a chair and started at 800, giving each grade about 2 minutes of circular sanding. At about the 4000 grade, the cloths are pretty much just polishing the progressively smaller scratches. By the time I got to the finest grade the lock surround was like a mirror ! A little wax and presto.
