Now it's the speedometer
I know there have been some posts on speedometer problems, but I was hoping someone might have a specific idea about thiis one.
I had several problems with my instrument panel gauges e.g. a dead tach, no mpg readings, the voltmeter reading low. I decided to try and fix these once and for all.
I found a new in box pc flex board for an 82 manual , just like mine I was so happy. I replaced it, along with getting in some LED's for the panel. Everything lit up, looked great, tach working, voltage is great, but now no speedo.
I checked for power going to the speedometer and there is juice in the wires going to the flex board. I am so pissed. Thought I was going to be able to check this one off the list.
Any thoughts anyone?

The speedometer pulse comes from a ring on the differential with embedded magnets. The magnets run by a coil on the outside of the differential case. Run magnets by a wire and you create a field. Thuse the pick up acts as a small electrical generator. The pulse from the pickup runs to a junction in the spare time well and then up to the instrument panel. It is rare - so rare I have never heard of one - to see the pick up fail. However it is quite common for the connection in the spare tire well to get messed up. That is the first place to check.
Good luck.

since it was working before you touched it then it stands to reson that one of the speedo connections isnt as good as it was, i think there are 3 pins on the back of the speedo try cleaning these pins with a pink eraser, i know it means removing the pod . But before you do this do what Dan said check the spare tire well for the connections
