Post automatic transmission spring

does anyone know if the plunger that the bowden cable is attached to can be made to go back into the transmission stronger

i think that there is a spring that pulls it back can this be replaced with a stronger one after dropping the pan

cheers

hi Steve

the reason is that the cable does not pull right back all the time and i think this leads to late gear changes. i have tried adjusting the cable length at the throttle end to get the correct change but sometimes the cable seems to stick. the cable isnt worn and i have lubed the sheaf around it

Hopefully this will shed some light

Cheers

Are you on the UK or GB 928 lists ?, only I'm only 15 miles away in Reading.
Myself & other local owners ocasionaly have meets in the Reading/Basingstoke area as well as going to events together.

The TV cable has a return spring on the lever.

Disconnect the TV cable from the linkage on the engine, if the transmission shifts early check the cable, lever or return spring.

If you still have late shifts the possibilities are a bad governor, can be verified with a gauge, defective kick down solenoid or switch, binding TV plunger, bad valve body.

thanks for your time

the spring does not seem to pull the cable right back to the same position at the throttle end so i am suspecting that this is causing uneven shifts. should there be a lot of play in the boweden cable when it is set up correctly.
when the cable is taken off i seem to get very erratic and uneven shifts is this normal?

i am now wondering if i have snagged the cable of when i put the box back in as it drives at its best when the cup clip is at its longest position

Cheers

There should be no slack in the TV cable when it is properly adjusted. What is odd is with a loose cable you should have early stack shifts. Just like you have with the cable disconnected. That tells me that the cable is definitely binding somewhere in-between. The best way to check this is by dropping the transmission pan and having someone depress and release the throttle, while you do a visual on the TV lever and plunger. If it does not return, the cable is probably sticking.

928 GB This is a fun list with NO rules, lots of 928 content & any other stuff.
<a href="http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/928GB/" target="_blank"> 928GB's homepage</a>

928UK This is a 928 only content list
<a href="http://www.928.org.uk/" target="_blank">928UK homepage</a>

Most are on both lists along with many from USA,Europe,Aus.,
GB probably has twice as many posts as UK, I hope to see you on one or both soon.
Another local guy I'found' on Rennlist only lives 2 miles away from me.Its a small world & getting smaller. <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

There is a spring in the A/T and I can confirm that if it is broken, you will not get proper kick-down. A friend of mine had exactly the same problem. Pulling the pan and replacing the spring fixed his problem. Do this along with an A/T service.

Steve

when you say there should be no slack in the cable my plunger moves up and down maybe 1 inch but where the cable is attached to the linkage on the throttle assembly this part moves more so when i put the throttle pedal down wouldn't this start to stretch the cable
