1985 Euro Bosch ignition control brain
Hello
If anyone has a 1985 Euro 928S I would like a few informational numbers, please:
a) Bosch Ignition control unit number (found on the pass side footwell)...The number printed on the control box.
b) How many distributors does a 1985 Euro car has??
c) What's the HP rating ??
Thanks

Blue83,
A.I could be wrong here but I think the ignition control unit is the same from 85 thru 95. The only number I could find...
was 928-602-706-01.
again I could be wrong here as later models including the 'CLUB' were 32 valve.
B.For what its worth there are two(2)rotor caps. Does this mean Euro's have two distributor's ? Stands to reason but since I have never been under the hood of a Euro it beats the hell out of me. The Flicks I've seen have a small cap for 4 plug wires co-located with the bigger cap, also 4 wire.
C. 85 5.0L Euro 300HP same rating as the 83 and 84 4.7 L Euro engines. This is odd because the compression was bumped up along with the bore reaming.
All the Euros were 16 valver's to this point.
compression went from 9.3:1 to 10.0:1
One usually associates an overbore + higher compression + a change in camming for maximum HP at higher rpm as cause for significant HP gains. Something amiss here.
Check with 928 International for the straight skinny on all of the above.

John is correct about the twin distributor - it goes in the same hole in the block as the US spec single dist, but it has two caps and rotors (same cap/rotor as 944, I recall). The 85/86 US spec were the 4 cam motor, and as such, had the caps and rotors mounted on the cam ends.
I will see if I can locate the ignition unit number, but I can tell you it has different mapping (and part #) than the US spec version - as does the LH unit.
As to the control unit itself, there are uusally evolutionary mapping changes made to suit any motor mods as the product is developed. The basic control units are physically the same on the 32V cars, but I saw at least 4 different LH brain numbers when I was digging the other day.

As far as listing differences and numbers go, Steve is on the ball with all his info.
Cheers
