Question I'm in the middle of a repair, got a quick question

Hello,

I noticed that the 3 wires leading to my oxygen sensor were either cut or have burned off (they look cut) about 2" from the sensor. I don't really have the clearence to make a repair to the wires without removing the Oxygen sensor.

It appears to me that on this 86 1/2 that the forward exhaust has to be dropped to get to the sensor. The manual says to simply unscrew it.

Am I missing something here? I really dont want to mess with rusted bolts on a perfectly non-leaking exhaust system.

Please Help.
Thanks,
Greg

On my 87 I was able to pull it through the floor board on the passenger side to test it. Dont know about 86.5.

Thanks for the reply, Jerry.

I guess the 86 is different because the only hole in the floor is the grommet hole for the Ox sensor wires. Hole is too small to get the sensor through.

Thanks again,
Greg

Cool

I just replaced mine on my 86.5 and yes, you do need to drop the front of the exhaust. The O2 sensor can be a real Bi**h to remove, had to heat mine to glowing red to get it to move. If you remove the passenger side front heat shield, you may be able to reconnect the wires without replacing the O2 sensor, but you might be ready for a new one anyway. I wasn't able to do anything with mine with the exhaust in place.

Good Luck!

Dave

I ordered a new sensor and gaskets. I only want to have to pull the exhaust once and trying to splice the wires so close to that much heat seems like a waste of time. I usually use heat-shrink on my splices. Doubt that would work 2" aboove the pipes.

Thanks for the responses. Getting opinions really helps motivate me to repair things the proper way.
