Mityvac price
I've found the Mityvac Silverline 4050 kit online for $69, at Automotive Test Systems. Most places were $80-90. Anyone heard of our found a better price than that? Online looks like the only way to get it (for me). None of the local shops seem to have anything but the most basic model.
BTW, their web site is Automotive Test Systems. Does anyone have good/bad experience with them?

Thats not a bad price for the kit. Also remember, you'll be saving on sales tax too. It's a great tool to have.

Harbor Freight tools has the MightVac kit (metal) for $53.99. They usually have free shipping on orders over $50.00. I've ordered several items from them at very reasonable prices on line and through the catalogs.

Which seems high? The $69 for the 4050, or the $40 for the plastic one? The 4050 kit includes the metal pump, which is a dual action, vacuum or pressure. It also has various connectors, tubes, etc, plus the case to hold all of it.
Good idea, Anthony, I'm gonna check Harbor Freight, too, to see what they have.

Correct, one is plastic and one is metal and they both do the same thing.
I've bought two plastic ones O-eight or so years ago. The first one I gave to a friend soon after I bought it, the second one I still have and both are still working like they did when it were new.
The Mityvac Silverline 4050 kit is very nice and if you are willing to pay the extra few buck, I think thats great.
Both of the plastic ones are still working great after eight or more years, the metal one should last at least twenty.
If anyone has thought about coming up with a required tool list for the DIY 928 owner, this should be at the top of the list.
Kindest, regards
Max

Aside from my VOM meter - the Mitivac is certainly a tool that has paid for itself many times.
I got the plastic unit at Autozone for $25.99 as well. Not only useful for the vacuum gremlin hunting - but also turns brake bleeding into a one man job (or brake fluid flushes).
I also highly endorse this little jewel.

Hi Sharks,
Here is a picture of the vacuum pump from Autozone and a syphon that I made. They had a metal pump when I bought mine. The hoses on the syphon must be at least 3/16" ID to work properly. Just recap the juice bottle and take the oil to be recycled after you say... pump the ATF out of your power steering pump, and replace the fluid with a synthetic.
I use a compressor to pressurize systems like the intake manifold (to solve idle problems).
That Mitivac looks like a great tool. It has some other features that do more than the simple vacuum pump that I bought.
