I know a gentleman with a late model Jaguar. One day a relative came over in a Ford Thunderbird and for some reason we all wound up standing around both cars with their hoods up. It slowly started to be noticed that they were the same car, we would look at a certain underhood bit on one, walk over and see the same bit in the same place in the other car, they were the same car with different skin!
Depreciation is stupefying on X-types and S-types around here.
In the UK, my old schoolfriend (who lives close to the Halewood plant where they assemble the cars) drives an X-type... wagon... 2WD... Diesel...
Yikes. -Talk about f#%@king with the purity of the breed!!!

My XKE is an auto as well but I purchased a 4 spd ( had it rebuilt) with the driveshaft and got a new 3 piece clutch set, master and slave cylinders so I do have another $3K into it. You can convert the car with an original 4 spd or go with a 5 spd, there are folks who make the 5 spds to have the shifter come out in the correct position. You can also get a bellhousing to adapt to a Supra transmission, they are in New Zealand.
The Thunderbird uses the 3.8L V8 which some of the Jags use.
97 was the transition year where they phased out the 6 cyl and phased in the V8.
Cheers,
Glenn

Good info Glenn. The guy near me that has the 2+2 project, also has a complete 4.2 motor and matching 4 sp tranny that is out of another bastardized coupe that has a Ford 302 in it - that he is also selling. He will sell the motor and tranny from that one seperately, so it could be dropped into the 2+2.
And I spent some time looking on craigslist, Hemmings, etc, and there are some interesting XKE project's out there. One in Mass that if I was closer, I'd be going to look at.
Tonight I'll search on the older MK sedans. Much more affordable, and would be fun to cruise around in too.

Thanks a lot, guys. I was going to milk my crummy Passat for as many miles and as much abuse as I could get out of it. And now I find myself searching the web for cheap XJ8s that are still under factory warranty.

Should have seen her face when I called it a Taurus and Rog100 called it a Mondeo. I thought she was going to kill us. She has had several XJ-6's when Lucas was the electric supplier. haha.

After owning a 70 SS 454 for 20 something years, a big engine is always better except when you have to feed it.

Man this thread has gone all over the place. So in keeping with the current muscle car theme, i was once a diehard Big Block B-Body Mopar guy myself, had both of these a 71 383 Roadrunner and a 68 440 powered Satellite
Pulled both of them with this
Sold the 71 after i married this
The Ram had to go once this showed up
I still have the 68 for now.

wow! verrrry cool! w/fuel prices soaring it does put some pressure on the daily drivers to be fuel effecient, but the toys are exempt in my book. I do miss 101 octane at "only" 3.75/gal though
