Post OBD-II retrofit

Would sombody please develop a computer retrofit for these older cars so that we can use the OBD-II stuff. Just take out the ignition brains and the Jetronic brains and put something modern in that we can interface with a laptop.

It seems like it would be a valuable product for not just the 928 guys but all cars with the older Bosch injection systems. 911's, Benzes, etc...

We could switch over to MAP at the same time to get rid of that finiky Hot Wire.

Am I wrong in thinking this would be a cool aftermarket improvement?

There's plenty of poople out there that will sell you an engine management system for your 928, with a computer interface. The one I've got my eye on is:

DTA fast engine management systems

Which seems V capable and flexible.

They emailed me some prices (not listed on their site):

You can also check out Perfect Power's PRS8 unit. Its around the same price or so (Louie Ott sells them) and it uses Windows software instead of DOS. They both are quite comparable in features, so check them both out. http://www.perfectpower.com/products/prs.asp

So I guess I'm wondering how much work on my end it will be to install one of these.

Also, will I be able to pass smog? The smog tech never checks the computer as far as I know.

None of the systems mentioned would be OB2 compatible. The market for aftermarket ignition/injection systems is relatively small and for Benzes vitrually nil. It's only for enthusiasts who have the time and ability and money to install. For a stock car what would be the gain?

GMS, the DTA Pro 8 uses a wide band o2 which is better than the narrow band o2 that our car are now using. I haven't had time to look at the other one posted.

Resurrecting a 17 year old thread. I have a 96 MB G320 imported by Europa and am looking to add an OBD2 port. In the intervening years, has anyone added one to their pre-OBD2 cars?
