Wink Oil Filler "can" leak~

Anyway...

-One little annoyance that I've been trying to work out for quite some time is a seepage of oil from the oil filler on my two-valve '85 S2.

Those of you who have two-valve cars are probably familiar with the metal oil filler that looks vaguely like a can. It has a black nylon top, and a cork seal that tends to leak. I've not had to manipulate the corkage, but I DO have a leak from the bottom. The "can" has an aluminum-looking tube about 3/4 of an inch in diameter coming out the bottom that bends forward and connects with a rubber hose that goes down the front of the timing belt cover and into the oil pan.

Where that tube exits the "can" I have quite a bit of seepage. It never registers on the dipstick, and I have checked the timing belt CAREFULLY...it does not appear to be oily or contaminated in the least, but it makes a nasty mess on the garage floor that I am sick of cleaning.

-I did think about putting cheap black linoleum tiles on the garage floor, but you know...that's kind of cheesy~

Has anyone had this? Is there a gasket where the tube comes out of the "can"? I've looked all over my $350 maintenance manual set and have failed to find a place where this "can" is discussed.

[Hello Stuttgart...this is Orlando calling...anyone home???]

-I could take the thing apart and RTV the daylights out of it- that's my gut reaction, but I figured I'd ask if there was a right way to solve this before applying junkyard technology.

Any suggestions before my fingernails get tasty again?

Normy, you asked about this on one of my threads. I'm sorry that I did not research the answer. I was going to find out how much one was, but got lost in something else. I have the luxury of having two welders in the area one who welds aluminum. My first reaction would be to remove it and have it welded (if the leak can be found). I am guessing that the cost of replacement would be up there. But this way the hands do get dirty, but it might be justified.

Cool

Yeah Chucker-

I've thought about having it welded- I know someone in town who works on aircraft propellors and can weld aluminum. I guess I need to pull it off and just see what exactly is going on...
