FWIW, I have a SPAL 2 x 11" set up. $204 from th the-fan-man on the web. I already had a home made frame in alloy angle that bolted up to the std mounting points, with a modified top shroud for the air tubes on top. The Spal casings are within a couple of mm of the size of the S4 core (10mm higher than early cores)but a bit shorter horizontally. This pair is rated at 2700 some cfm, and my reading of SPAL data shows 10,000 hour life is claimed. I have found that using the sensor at bottom of radiator produces unreliable results - you basically have to guess what the differentail temp is down there from the inlet coming out of the top of the engine. Hence I am going to the 928motorsports sensor in the top hose (or a home made variant thereof).I am running one fan off the std realy circuit, and slaving the second fan's relay off the first one, to split the relay load. In my first test on a 35C/98F day, for an hour, the fans controlled the temp nicely (under second white line) with AC on, but on checking the fuse board the fan relay was too hot to hold. On removal, its date stamp showed it was original - late 83 build, so I replaced it . Next test the new relay got no more than warm.

i also may go from clutch fan to electric fan one day, should the alternator be changed? right now at night with all the lights are on and the heater - my battery gauge sometime shows at 10!

Check all your grounds before looking for complicated stuff....
My alternator hasnt been touched in a long while, and it handles 2 fans fine.

My alternator gauge also reads as low but I have attached a multimeter to the battery terminals and when running at 1500 RPM with all 3 fans, AC blower high and lights I have ~13.2V at the battery. Gauges are notorious inaccurate.

Add Dodge Viper fans to the list as a possibility. I have one. It's a serious OEM fan and fits the radiator but I don't know how easily it would mount in a stock 928.
It's a multi speed fan although I have it wired for one. Be sure to clear any nearby shop towels before turning it on

I wonder why I did this and not just S4 fans. Is there something wrong with them?

Good info in This thread and the links contained in it.

Personally running the countour/mystique set-up and am very happy with it.

I don't like any of the aftermarket fans that require you to "punch holes" through your radiator to secure it. I had one and took it off.

you aren't really punching holes... more like threading a zip tie through the fins.

Mike, do you have any pics of the viper fan setup?

After actually reading all the posts and looking at all the pix, I canceled my order for the single fan unit because it doesn't cover the entire Rad. So, I will order the Contour unit today.

Here it is with the old stock radiator. I made aluminum channels to mount it and have it all leaning back a bit for some extra filter-ITB inlet room.
