Default ATF amount and o ring part number needed

Long story short - just got the dreaded 1st and 2nd gear slip started. ATF fluid low and lovely shade of brown - filter and fluid change to do! Ordered service kit from 928intl (half the UK cost! Nothing new there). Couple of questions:

WSM says 5.5ltrs of fluid for change, but my WSM shows 3spd box i think? Other posts say 8 quarts (however much a quart is) 8 ltrs? Anyone confirm amount?

also

Part number needed for the "O ring in the fitting in the tube that connects the reservoir to the pan" also diagram / pet page if possible.

Ta very much

The trans should take about 8 quarts thats if you drain the torque converter and the pan, you can drain the converter with the drain plug you will need someone to turn the engine by hand till you see the plug show up in the metal grate in the bottm of the transmission. 8 qts is about 8 litres, the part number for the O ring 477 321 487. After you drain the pan and converter rifit the pan and dont over tighten the securing screws IIRC they are about 6ft/lb not much , then fill the pan till you cant add anymore then start the car for a few seconds till it start to circulate then shut it off and keep adding do this a few times till the level doesnt drop then with the engine running shift the trans thru all of its gears then check the level with the engine running , make shure the car is level

Thanks! Any thoughts as to which of these pumps would work best?

A US quart is 2 US pints but they dont equate to imperial pints. When I did my transmission service I drained both the gbox and TC replaced the filter, gasket and used approx +8 litres of trans oil.
Do as Merlin suggests with regard to filling and getting level correct.

I have the first pump but it only holds 500cc..........you may want to get a bigger version if available.

the first pump should work OK either way its a messy job, the first pumps seem to have internal leaks after a few uses so fluid starts dripping down the piston shaft as you push the plunger in. You can also get an oil fill spout off of another oil can cut off the top and add a short hose then put the top onto the trans fluid bottle and this seems to work OK but you need a bit more say 10 QTS use Dextron 3 or 4 in the trans

Check that you have the right "upgraded" pan gasket. Mercedes Benz upgraded the gasket around 1994 from the original part No. 126 271 10 80 to 126 271 11 80. The part number is molded into the gasket. The new gasket is more substantial.

If you fit the old gasket it can tear of split along the side lengths. or rolls inwards at the forward corners and it typically occurs approximately one week after changing as advised my MB Technical Advice document 27A94091.

Ask me how I know?

I purchased my kit from Porsche Service Centre and it was packaged in 2002 and contained the old gasket. New gaskets can be obtained from MB spare parts (porsche and MB part numbers are the same) much cheaper. I obtained my gasket from a European Spare Parts retailer and it was around $14.00.

Fit the pan gasket dry and torque up sequentially to correct level, don't over tighten other wise splitting or rolling.

If the flex plate, clamp, torque tube, rear flex plate, and the converter are installed correctly the converter drain plug will be at the correct position when the engine is at TDC, per the WSM.

Yes, is is a bitch to line every thing up right when doing anything with the TT.

I found a way to hang a small funnel on the fuel filler flap while open, and run a neoprene tube down to the fluid reservoir.

I put the front of the car on car ramps and jack up the rear and support on jack stands so the car is level. I fill the transmission and TC by using a 1 litre hand pump bottle to fill the transmission. By using this method I can exactly monitor the level in the reservoir whilst filling (no overfilling or spilling) and monitor the quantity used as the bottle is graduated. It also allows me to check the level cold with the engine running whilst moving through the respective gears etc., as per the WSM.
