Default Improve stereo bass

I have owned my 86pt5 since April, and the ONLY disappointment has been with the stereo. Specifically, with the bass. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a teenager and I'm not an audiophile, but I do know what I like - a well rounded sound.

Well, a PO had installed a nice Alpine HU, Boston speakers, and an amp I'm not familiar with. However, the acoustics of our beloved are not condusive to a nice tight thump. I listen to music ranging from Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, and Massive Attack, to Guns N Roses, Slayer, and Metallica. Highs and mids are there, just no bottom end... until now.

After a lot of research, I found this

It definitely adds the bass I was looking for, and then some. One of the few products to meet and exceed expectations. As a bonus, I found mine on ebay for $100.

Installation was pretty simple, as it is a self-powered sub. I just put it in the spare tire well.

There is a slight hump with the mat pulled back over it

There is a wired remote I installed as stealthy as possible

Any way, this was my first project that made a noticeable improvement.

Thanks for looking.

Looks very nice, thanks for sharing.

Sure beats taking all the truck space up like in my wifes '90.

I can't see a thing?

Hey, if you listen to G&R, you gotta love Rocket Queen with the new low end. One of my top 5 all-time favorite driving songs.

Sean, thanks for the kind words.

Mike, funny you mention Rocket Queen. When I bought AfD back in the late '80s, I wore out the rewind button listening to RQ; I yelled my lungs out when they played it in concert. Still one of my all-time fav songs, followed by My Michelle, Estranged, and November Rain.

Yeah, I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but the song just plain rocks.

If you like Rocket Queen, check this out (There's a higher quality version of sound and video, but it takes too l-o-o-n-n-g to download).
ERROR: If you can see this, then Google Video is down or you don't have Flash installed.

That's Kevin (The Guy)'s SC-ed 84 Euro and the sound clips are all of it.

Well, crap. Any suggestions as to why the pics aren't showing? I can see them fine.

I read somewhere that Rocket Queen is about a girl who was starting a band of the same name. It's kind of a tribute to her. There is audio in the song of Axel having sex with one of his bandmates girlfriends.

Cool vid!

Chris,
as far as I can tell you only have 1 pic in your photobucket account, and dont have any sub directories.

Hell, I deleted the pics.

I thought they were pasted onto the thread.

It's taking me longer to figure out how to post pics than it did to install the freaking sub.

I'll try to put them back...

If you'd like to do it you can add a nice Porsche looking bass level control **** into that panel with a little simple fabrication - mine is the rearmost one pictured here.

Its a combo of a blower fan speed control ****, the insert from a rear AC flow control and the bezel from a hatch release ****. Bit of filing, bit of drilling - presto: "stock look".

My electronic cross-over is under the drivers seat so this is also a perfect control location - short wires & easily reached yet out of harms way (and obviously works already for yours too...).

Sterling, you are correct, there are numerous powered subs out there. The Kenwood is a smaller unit but did not receive the glowing reviews the Infinity received. Blaupunct even has a 10 inch unit.

Alan, I took the gain controller apart, but being mechanically disinclined, I was unable to figure out how to rewire a larger ****. Yours is exactly what I was going for, but I'm afraid I will do more harm than good.

I noticed how dirty my car was in the pictures and was a little embarassed. It is now freshly vacuumed.

Chris another easier option is to just use a fader **** on your existing control. These are about $8 and look like the top half of the front **** in my earlier picture. They were originally fitted in that exact location - so a very stock look too.

Not sure what the **** you have in now looks like up close - but this would be a very similar sized Porsche ****.

I attached a photo of a previous configuration I had there with 2 fader ***** used for my Valentine1 remote audio. Ussing one like this for bass would seem to make sense too (icon/logo as well).
