Question Color Code???

I searched all the 928 and Porsche sites...

I need to get some touch up paint for a couple of small stone chips...BUT I cannot find my color code ANYWHERE...can someone tell me the official name of my color.

It is: L999

Anyone? Buehler?

Looking in the Shop Manuals...there is no specific code color for L999.

Probably a special order number (?) The highest number in the book I have (for the 85 year) shows 961 (Metallic Meteor Gray).

What does your color look like? Your Avatar is kind of small, so it's hard to tell. I have the color chart for '85, but I'm not sure, if those codes are just order numbers or actual color numbers. I do belive, though, that once we know the name of the color, it'll be easy to find the code - unless it is really a special order color. What does your options sticker under the trunk mat say? Is yours a special order car?

Nicole -

The only option code is 'C00" - EURO

The paint is a deep metallic blue, that, in bright sun, seems to change to a deep metallic purple as your viewing angle changes. I did find an "L99" color that was 'Custom Metallic', so I am wondering if the 2nd 9 denotes which custom metallic color it is....

Thanks for the help, all.

I thought L99 was the code for special order paint regardless of color.

Mark,
That's the code on the doorplate?
Type: Porsche Color Codes on your browser.
Several sites including the Devek site, I think there is also a cardex site reference .
Don't limit yourself to the 928 codes - do a little browsing -. Other Porsche models out there!
Also there was an OZ site which I have misplaced someone should have it under favorites or contact John Pitman in Sidney he should have 'It',
Paint by year, code, with pictures of the car.
Oddly, there are at least two '99' codes, one for the custom paint, and one for custom leather.
May be more 99 codes, but I am unaware of em'.
Good luck,
John S. and Pattycakes

This may be of no help whatsoever but I can tell you that on a 993 L999 is a colour called Viola which is a bluish through to purple colour. It does look very similar to the colour in your avatar.

Best of luck.

That sounds exactly like my color - Prussian Blue (33X).

Dang - somebody's stressing the search engine....I posted this OVER 2 years ago!

Dave - BTW - I have compared my car side-by-side to a Prussian Blue....it is CLOSE - but not exactly the same...When I had a local auto-paint store do a computer color match for some touch-up paint, it came up as Phoenician Blue...tho even the computer-matched color is SLIGHTLY darker then what is on my car.

L999 is not a specific color. It's also listed on my iris blue. The L999 appears on the sticker code in the warranty and maintenance book. I've also done a search for what this means and have not found an answer. But it probably means special paint for that MY.

AFAIK L999 is Paint to Sample meaning just about anything customer wanted. It can be some Porsche color not available for 928 on that particular year or color matched to customers favourite lipstick etc. Period Mercedes and BMW color charts might be good place to look when hunting for match.
