Wink Exhausting stuff!

Any recomendations for a HIGH FLOW CAT manufacturer?

Anyone running a BORLA muffler? or a recomendation on type?

Looking into headers, 3.5 single pipe on the way back, to a single high flow cat, and a single BORLA XR1 (not sure which one). www.borla.com

Cool

Tony-

It's the expensive route, and may not have the flow you are looking for, but I put a pair of S4 cats [O2 tubes welded] on my '85 S2 along with a Borla cat back exhaust. Twin 2.5 pipes and a single Borla exhaust [don't know the part number; I bought the system from 928 Intl.- call them]. This stuff is very high quality, has not hurt the performance of my originally non-catalyzed S2 one bit, and sounds great. It was even easy to install.

Tony, just about any muffler shop should have high-flow, shorty cat's for under $50.00.
That does not include installation. Don't tell them they can't weld on the car until you agree on a price, lest the cost increase suddenly.
Don't feel like you are ripping the shop off as they only need to bust 6 header flange bolts loose and remove the O2 sensor.
How well does the shorty cat work? Got me! The shorties come in two different lengths both fit well in the 'Tunnel'
I wonder what that 3 or 3 1/2 inch pipe is going to sound like. The 2 1/2" I finally settled on - for a single pipe system - is to loud for my taste. If you want to sound like something running at Daytona the 2 1/2" will get you close.
Anything above that and you are going to have a resonating metallic thunking sound with each pulse.
My 2 1/2 " also sets up some odd vibrations throughout the aft end of the car no matter how many isolators I add or subtract. They come and go at different rpm's in different gears.
Check into decible ratings if you can. If you need a site for decible ratings let me know.
BTW That 3 or 3 1/2' is going to result in higher costs overall and the whole shebang is going to hang noticeably lower.
Later,
Keep em' rolling, even if you have to push**#!!??

You might want to check with Louis Ott. He's used some high flow cats in some of the systems he's made, but I don't know what brand. You sure you want to go with a 3.5" system? That could get kind of loud after the initial novelty of it wears off.

Hey Tony,

I second the recommendation to talk to Louie. He has flow tested numerous cats and knows the best ones to fit on the 928. Adam B is running his X crossover with the high flow cats and has only seen a slight drop in performance compared to the total bypass.

You should also consider Pre-cats...not as effective as full cats (smaller without air ing port) but knowing how clean our cars run anyway...they should work out without too much of a performance hit. I think Devek has something like that on their set up.

Louie can be reached at louisott@cs.com .

Tony,

You also might want to talk with Tom Cloutier. I believe he is running a 3 1/2" system similar to your description on his S4.

He made a 3" system for my euro 83S that sounds great.
