Post Odometer gear question

Just getting ready to pull the pod and speedometer to repair long-nonfunctioning odometer. Assuming that the problem is is the famed odometer gear failure, I have a question I am hoping someone can answer. My car is an '85 928S Euro auto that was federalized. The speedo/odometer that reads mph/miles...So would I replace the odometer gear with a unit for a US car or a Euro car.

I am assuming that there is a difference between the two, but maybe that's incorrect. If they are, what is the difference? Size? Number of teeth? Both?

Regards,

Steve,

If your car is MPH/miles, you'd need the US gear. You can see a pic of the gear on the web site. The euro gears have a larger "inner" gear.

Thanks, Scott. It was actually your site that prompted my question. I had not thought about the Euro vs. US issue until I saw your indication that a euro odo gear was in the works. I had assumed all these gears were the same and the conversion was done by other gearing within the speedo/odo.

Since I live in Canada, I really wish I did have the original Euro speedo, but at least I can get my US federalized unit working for the present.

Ahhhhhh!!!
A Newfie surfaces on the board.
Hey Steve, I'm a downhomer as well. I imported my shark to the US from Toronto. I had to change the speedo over to a MPH unit which I bought off ebay. Replaced the gear and no problems. Nothing to add to your post, just thought I would say hi!

Bernie;
Glad to hear from a fellow Newfoundlander anytime!

Any chance you still have the old KPH speedo? It's not a big deal, but having a metric unit would be useful here in Canada!

Thats the funny part.
I bought my MPH speedo on ebay for 40.00. I replaced the gear - I think 25.00?
Then I sold my KPH speedo on ebay for 65.00!!!

Sometimes ya get lucky
