Anyone looking to give a 928 some TLC?
I have been the proud owner of a 1988 928 S4 for the past year, but it has become apparent that I just don't have the time to give it what it needs. My 911 track/race car is consuming most of my time right now, and I don't feel that it's right to leave the 928 sitting in the garage most of the time. I do manage to take it out every now and then, but not nearly enough.
The car's body and interior are in excellent shape, with only the rear interior quarter panels looking their age. The mechanicals are where it needs the most work, as the previous owner(s) appear to have skimped a bit in this area. In the past year I've spent several thousand dollars replacing the steering rack, motor mounts, tubes, hoses, suspension, RMB, GTS brakes, etc., but it needs some more work to be perfect.
If I could find a mechanic to do the work I'd spend the money and have it done, but frankly the options in the Denver area suck. The guys who did the work on it last year really don't like the 928, and I hate bringing it to them. I've asked around in PCA, the local 928 owners mailing list, etc., but no one knows of a dealer or independent who is really worthwhile.
What does it need? Here are some of the things:
- A/C is not working
- Electrical gremlins (battery drains, driver side window doesn't roll down)
- High idle
I really think the car needs to be worked on by someone who knows the electrical system well and can "restore" it to stock. No one around here seems to know anything like this, and they'd be bumbling around trying to get it done.
The standard response is to "just do it yourself", which is easier said than done. If I had nothing else to do and a more mechanically-inclined background, I might be able to consider such a thing.
So, I'm thinking of selling the car, and would like to find out what interest there is on the list first. I will be glad to accept a lower offer from someone who will be able to take care of the car and get the work done on it, as I feel it's a great car that deserves it. PM me if you are interested and want more details. Believe me, the price I have in mind is probably much lower than you might think. I'm not motivated by the cash so much as the desire to place the car in a good home.

I'm currently an owner of an 885spd. Please email me off list with what you are asking for the car. Also, please let me know what kind of mileage it has and the condition of dash/pod.
I love red cars and would consider this one as an addition to the family.

All,
Sorry, should have included some more details in the first post;
- The car has around 83k miles on it. I'll get the exact figure when I'm back in town tonight.
- The original steering wheel has been replaced with the 930S wheel from AJ-USA. Original wheel is included.
- The original wheels have been replaced by the Boxster 17" wheels, as in the photos. The original "flats" are included, along with the worn-out tires (SO2s, I think).
- The tires are the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712s, 225/45-17 front & 255/40-17 rear, with less than 2k miles on them.
- I have aluminum door handles and door rub strips from 928 Specialists that haven't been installed.
- The floor and cargo mats are black, from 928 Specialists, with the 928 S4 logo on them.
- The original stereo has been replaced with a Sony unit plus a 5 (6?) disc CD changer. Original head unit included.
- The front drop links from 928 Specialists have been installed, but the rear drop links are still in the box and are included.
- The front brakes have been upgraded to the GTS "Big Black" calipers and drilled rotors.
- The front and rear suspensions use the Koni/Eibach kit from 928 Specialists. I probably have the originals in a box if you want them.
- A PO installed a chip according to the documents, but I don't know any more than that.
- It has an RMB on it and sounds great, athough it is too loud given the high idle.
I'll take some pictures in the next day or so, and if you'd like specific pics, let me know in a PM.
