Post OEM fire extinguisher and first aid kit

Hi!
Does any know if our sharks had the option of an original first aid kit or fire extinguisher?
If there was an option can please anyone tell me the part number or if still available in POD?
Many Thanks

Neither are shown in the current parts list.

A First Aid Kit was supposedly required on the German cars.

I'm not familiar with a Porsche Fire Extinguisher, but we do sell nine different models of suitable aftermarket extinguishers in Red or Polished, at prices ranging from $50 to $164.

Thanks for your help Wally, the thing is that I liked the OEM ones but I see that Porsche didn't had any of this equipment for those cars. I the dealer in Madrid they told me that it didn't exist and, as I can see in the States too.

Wally,

Are your Fire Extinguisher models for electrical and gas fires for under the hood type fires?

I have the first aid kit from my car. It was a plastic covered cardboard type. Cut myself on it first time I opened it.

Flint,

The first aid kit in my 78 euro is a gray/green plastic. BTW if the bandages are original don't use them as the cotton degrades after ten years and could cause more problems than an open wound.

Cool

I have the original first aid kit from my '83 Euro. It rattled around in the back seat for several months before Dennis and Jay K happened to be talking about those kits and where they belong. Sure enough, mine fit just whre they said. In case you want to look, there is a place for them, under the tray and carpet on the right side of the passenger footwell in front of the door. Look and see if you have a snap there on the carpeting. If so, that is where the kit is stored. Kind of cool to find something like that. Better than finding old dimes and 10 pfenning coins stuck to the floor. <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

Here's to your 928!

Funny (not really) thing, a Saab burned in front of my building last week. Harbor Freight has a sale on First Alert for $12.99 B & C rated.

Talking

Joe-

If you have the ability to take a pic and post it of where the first aid kit originally fit...could you please? My '85 S2 has the LH and ignition computers where you are talking...but the carpet flap is much larger. I remember wondering why they cut it this way when I installed my new carpet...

The drivers manual of my S4 says that the first aid kit goes on a tray in the rear glovebox (mine doesn't have rear A/C but it has, under that tray a cooler that you switch on or off inside the glovebox. It's the only 928 that I've seen with that option) but the previous owner (the only one I'm the second) it's my uncle and he told me that it never had a first aid kit.

We have 1.25 lb., 2.5 lb., and 3 lb. Halon extinguishers. Halon are good for any car fire, including gasoline and electrical.

A dry chemical extinguisher creates a terrible mess, and can cause serious corrosion damage to the electrical system and to the engine, if the extinguiser power is not cleaned off immediately and completely.

Halon (and CO2) does not cause any damage.

My European sales brochure printed in '85 also shows the first aid kit in the little locker between the rear seats. Obviously, for cars without rear AC.

Yes, a first aid kit ("Verbandskasten"), as well as First Aid training for the driver, are mandatory in Germany. They check for the kt at the bi-annual vehicle inspection - no kit, or no warning triangle in the car, no pass.

The kit pictured is the standard size picture, following some kind of German Industry Norm (DIN). They are available at any parts store in Germany, but only last a few years (in the summer heat, the adhesive of the band aids goes bad).

On older model Euro 928s (at least up to about '83 or '84), there was space for the first aid kit in the passenger foot area, where the later cars have the computers installed. I'd have to do some research, as to where it went in the later Euro models - maybe the glove box between the rear seates, in those models that did not have the rear AC?

Remember: Rear AC was an option in Germany, and I have rarely seen cars there that had it. Even in CA, I don't particularly care about it - if I'd have to choose, I'd prefer the heated seats like I have them in my Saab. But that doesn't belong here...

In regards to the fire extinguisher, there was some kind of bracket that mounted it in front of the passenger seat. I have seen it a few times with the extingisher installed, but don't know, if it was a regular option, or an Exclusive (X...) option.

BTW: I have seen a yellow GTS at the factory, which had an engine fire and was extinguished with a regular fire extinguisher. Something you would never want to happen to your car. The powder made it's way from the engine bay though all the HVAC channels and into the interior. They had to take everything apart and clean - an enormous task that would not be feasable for most of our cars. So, if you buy an extinghisher, get one with Halon!
