Small efficient door handle fix

Small efficient door handle fix
My door handle (mostly in driver side) has gradually became hard to pull, I didn't recognise this before it one day suddenly was almost impossible to open the door.
The fix: Remove the outside door lock (two hexagon screws) - Clean and grease the unit - AND GREASE THE SMALL ROUND PIN WHO MAKES CONNECTION FROM THE OUTSIDE DOOR-LOCK TO THE INSIDE DOOR-LOCK - That's due to missing grease on this pin, and the inside fingers who push the pin, the handle is stocked.
I BTDT, and believe me, that like getting a new car!!

Was it hard to pull the handle itself, or was it hard to get the door open? Mine is of the latter variety, sometimes requiring me to push the door in a bit with the other hand while lifting the handle.

Aaron,
The handle was hard to pull.
Maybe your are due to sticking outer lock unit, then the same cure will work.
Anyway that's a nice 'Sunday morning job', and for sure good for the car.

When I acquired my 928 the driver's door was hard to open, sometimes requiring me to push against the door while pulling the handle before the internal mechanism would release. One day, with a snap, it stopped opening. I found by searching Rennlist that this was not an uncommon failure and that the replacement mechanism is about $40 from the Big 3. Here is a link to the "How to.." info on Nichols' site http://www.nichols.nu/tip378.htm
Replacing the broken latch was tedious, but the info from Nichols was very useful. Once I had the old latch out I was able to see that one of two actuator levers in the mechanism had been broken for some time, placing all the spring resistance on the remaining lever causing it to flex and ultimately fail. The bad news is..I suspect your latch will need replacing soon. The good news... you can do it.

Hey, thanks. I suppose I'll cross that bridge once I come to it! =) For now, there's about a gazillion other problems with my 928, luckily none that keep it from getting from point A to point B. I feel kinda guilty for not fixing it up, but the reason I bought a hurting $2300 '79 was just that - because it was $2300. Time to put this in the bookmark folder for solutions to things that have or will go wrong... =)
Cheers,
