Default Mounting a center armrest

I am going to install a center cassette box/arm rest in my '79, which didn't come with one.

What hardware is "normal" for this? I think just long screws, but how long? Is there anything in the tunnel that I have to worry about hitting/avoiding?

TIA

The newer cars cut away part of the carpet under the box. They also have some standoffs welded to the chassis for the cassette. There is not much directly under the cassette box you can hit. On my 78 I installed it over the carpet without cutting any holes that way when I want to remove the box the car looks normal.

I used a drill to drill holes directly through the carpet and then used awl to locate the holes. The depth of the drill until it hits metal will give you a the length of screws to use. I just used sheet metal screws from the local hardware store.
