Cool Flex Plate tension- release!

Hello All,

I started another cucial yet simple project on my 87 auto with 96k on the clock. I was inspired by Roger Tyson on this endeavor, at 3rd coast a couple of weeks ago this was the tech session Roger and Jim demostrated. The only difficult part of this task was loosining the exhaust pipe to allow enough room to get the bell housing off. Well after loosining the pinch collar the cars spline shaft moved just about 4mm! Thanks to Roger and DFW crew!

Dan

Those gloves can really save your skin, that's why I use them. I can't stand having grease and dirt caked into my hands and under my nails. The only problem I have with them is that they are very inconsistent in their sizing and quality. Literally you'll get good boxes of gloves, where they fit just right and seem to be really tough, and then you'll get a bad box were you tear 1/2 of them in the process of putting them on.

Nice one Danny!

Check it every year if you want to be real safe.
Or fit the "Constantine" clamp and forget about it for good.

I use those gloves all the time.

Clean-up is in minutes. Without them I would have to scrub a layer of skin off every time with green scrubie pads.

I keep a box of gloves and a box of Huggies butt wipes handy all the time. Suprisingly, the huggies take grease off the hands in quick fashion.

So not having it checked in 20 years would be bad?

Actually I think it was checked after the torque tube was rebuilt but that was a few years ago also.

Another thing added to the todo list.

It is equally important to check the end play of the crank to establish wear levels when you first release the flex plate.

Did that as well with a dial calipar, had under 4mm play on all sides. If that makes sense.

Dan,
Does not sound correct - normally you would see about .007" in total.
More or less depending on the wear on the engine.

Roger,

I guess when I buy an x-pipe from you for the 87, we will take a look at the play!
