Smile 928 future Owner?

Hello everyone. This is my first post on here, but I've been a reader for a while. Seeing as it's my first post, it'll prolly be too long, a lil pointless, and filled with raving & ranting. I was just wondering on what are the chances of finding an unmolested (as in never wrecked, repainted, or dented, good interior, etc.) Black 928S 16V Manual(Euro pref but US ok)? I know that the 32V had more power and are more likely to be found in good shape, but I have my heart set on the earlier bumper styles and I understand that the 16V heads can be taken off without the need to drop the motor as in the 32V's case. Important as I do my own headwork and it's a "easy" way for me to gain a few ponies. Has to be black because I had a black '81 auto in High School . I know that the production numbers on this species of exotic were low. I'm basically looking for a near concours quality car for around $15,000-$20,000, is this realistic, possible? If this is possible, then I'll proly be a 928 owner again within a year. I'm in the market for a car and want a 928 because of their beauty, power, sound, handling, and originality. Sure, I have strayed and thought abought owning other cars, but all the others come up short in some way. The Nissan 350Z, fast, great handling, looks good, but in the end just another cookie cutter import. Who n 20 years time will still condsider it anything special? Or even in 5 years? I have yet to see an avid '83 280Z fan or even a '280Z without faded paint. The Dodge RAM SRT-10, a truck, heavy (5000lbs!), not available yet, not a Porsche, and will be overpriced when it does come out. The '67-'69 Camaros, rust like crazy, most are already rusty, hacked up, those leaf springs make them handle like turnip trucks , and they are fairly common. The 951, great car, a Porsche!, power galour, but I'm not too keen on 4 cyclinders, or their looks (928's just look badass the way 944 could never). In conclusion, I love the way nobody knows what I am talking about when I say that I want a Porsche 928 to a layperson, and how they think that Porsche never made anything bigger than a Flat6.

My, a motorcycle nut too. I ride a 99 zrx1100 and daily drive an 84 blk/blk AT. You should have no trouble finding a good example well under your price range say 10-12k for a low miles good one. There's one on ebay right now with only 15k miles or so, blk/blk, AT. Lotsa 928's going for 5-10k. Good luck in your hunt.

Good Luck on the Concours 928. Hope you find one. I was recently looking also, and came across a '85 Euro. It was Black with Black interior. The guy said it had been repainted. Was listed on Autotrader for $8500.

There's no question you can find the car you're looking for within your budget. The trick is to find someone with the expertise to do a thorough evaluation of the car to confirm that it truly is in the condition advertised. You might start by getting some recommendations of some mechanics in your area who really know these cars and ask whether they know of a car you'd be interested in.

Thanks everyone. I suspected as much. 928's are so undervalued. Back in '96, my '81 (98,000 miles), in good condition was $10,000. Oh well, it's a buyer's market.
