Greetings,
I am wondering if anyone has a clean way of getting rid of the holes in the door panels where the speakers once were ?
I am interested in removing the entire audio system and would like to not have any evidence of having any speakers mounted in the doors if possible.
Are the door panels of an earlier model car interchangeable with my S4 ? Has anyone ever done this ? Any ideas would be appreciated.

You could pull the panel, fashoion an insert where the speakers were and have the panel re-upholstered. That might be cheaper and easier than sourcing older panels. BTW, the older panels had perforations and the speaker was mounted behind.... Still evidence of audio.
If you are somewhat handy with scissors, vinyl and spray glue, this is an easy saturday project

take off the door panel remove the vinyl cover from the top , fiberglass shut the holes and put new vinyl over the entire top portion .... it is a very simple easy nearly flat panel with no seams or compound curves .

OK, that sounds like a good idea. What do you guys think would be the best way to remove the vinyl without too much damage underneath ? Since my car is an '89, would you think that it would pretty much come off fairly easily ?
Thanks,
Rob

Speaking for an 85.
The vinyl is only held on around the edges. There will be a layer of foam underneath the vinyl and it is not glued down there. You should have no trouble peeling up the vinyl from the edges whatsoever.

I have just finished my drivers side door and in about 30 minutes getting ready to start the passenger side. It's fairly simple provided you don't have a three year old and a 10-month old daughter climbing all over you, ah-ya-ya!! Vinyl should come off easy after which you'll see the many different routes you can take. If you still have the speaker rings, screens and what-nots I'd be glad to take them off your hands.

Hey Robert, have you taken the fader **** out? Hopefully you haven't as I have. The pictures I thought I took of it, well, you get the rest. I don't have a clue as to which wires go where and I'm running out of fuses quickly. If you or anyone else could please help me I would most certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

My car didn't come with the external (from the audio head unit) fader, so I'm sorry that I can't be of help there.
I am still debating whether or not to have any radio at all. Currently, I only listen to the radio about 20% of the time and I would really like the clean look of no speakers. I love to drive with the windows open while listening to the sound of the exhaust system (dual Borla's).
Right now, I am just doing some research on all of this.

Robert: Your panels are most likely covert with leather, not vinyl. If I were you, I'd do this in a way that if you ever change your mind you could add the speakers again. Keep in mind that the moment you make such modifications, your car becomes virtually unsellable.
Right now, you are the only one who has to like your car, but it might not always be that way...
Maybe some used panels from the early models wouldn't be auch a bad idea. Then you can keep the original panels as they are, and swap them back in, if ever needed.
