Post Bastrop State Park Shark Fest Pics

Thanks to Donald for the invite. As "half-brothers", Joyce and I in our 951 and my Dad and Mom in their 924S had a great time at the gathering. The shark infested waters included some first rate examples of what we "want" to be when we grow up! Enjoy!

Keith, it realy was great to meet up with such a nice group of WC Porsche owners, I hope we can get together again soon.

Did anyone get the name and pic's of the guy who came in the Red 85 Euro. I got a couple of pics of the car but not a single one of him or his traveling pit crew.

Here's a few pic's from my collection

This is the car that showed up with a Nascar Pit crew

See, I told you guys I was no good with names. Max and I had a great conversation, talked about cars and cameras and all manner of other "neat" stuff - and I go and leave his name off my list!

Anybody got a used memory course for sale!

Dad said to tell you thanks for the pics of his 924S! Let's do it again real soon.

No worries here! It seems to happen to old Max from time to time I wish I had taken more pictures of all the cars and their owners. Your dads 924S brings back some great memories and your 951 was is stunning example of German engineering.

Keep in touch

Keith- It was good to meet you and Joyce (& Jim & Peggy). Thanks for posting the pics and names; I just have a few to add:
Dollie
Andy (and the NASCAR pit crew!)
Kim
Aaron
Don
Thanks to all for coming out, it was a relaxing weekend and I enjoyed all of you. Sorry for the delay but I have had a harrowing computer day (whoever said XP is stable hasn't seen what I can do to it!).
The DEVEK door prizes arrived 7 minutes after I left on Friday night (a UPS "business" day ends at midnight, I suppose ) will post a semi-fair raffle scheme after I get the Stage 2 headers and aluminum belly pan fitted to my car.
Later,
Donald

P.S.- Another big thank you to Susan & DEVEK for the goodies, and to Hill Country Region PCA's Pres. Dan Germain.

I could only make it up Sunday morning but had a great time hanging out with Max and Donald, and doing some spirited driving. My car hasn't had a workout like that in years and the new Yoko AVS's seemed to handle it all very well.

Good pictures Max, you master of spray adhesives and foam!

Hey Don C. - Sorry I didn't get to meet you - or play on the highway for that matter! Looks like you guys had some fun!

Ya missed Donald's inch thick hamburgers on Saturday! Man they were good!

See ya'll next time!

By the way - if you're interested. The Rennlist 924/944/968 guys are meeting at Davey Jones Kart Zone on 8/24/02 at 4pm to test our "driving" skills. Everyone is welcome to attend - the more the better!

Here's a link to the place...

Max, your last pic - seems appropriate that the cars were parked in front of the 'Porche Office' - hah!

Good catch guys I think Donald is collecting digital pictures of the Bastrop weekend so any of you that have a few pictures that you would like to share, please drop him a line.

It looks like I maybe spending one or two weekends a month in the Hempstead area and am looking forward to hooking up with a few of you then. I know of a few FM roads in the area that were quite entertaining years ago. You may have to pack a lunch, as there are no great eateries that I can think of like Royers in Round Top, Tx.

I would like to take just a small amount of band width to thank, Marc and Susan at DEVEK, Mark, Jim and team at 928 International and Dave, Jenny and Wally at 928 Specialists and Guy at DynoTechnik for their help with technical advice and parts that made this weekend enjoyable.
I also want to thank John and Randy at Rennlist and Phil Tong for providing a great way to get the word out.

I realize that the above may come off as being swank or brown nosing a little, but I believe good service should be rewarded as loud and clear as the bad.

After two weeks of thrashing (see list below) on my car and ordering the needed parts, I never received any of my shipments late and received good sound advice from all the above.

Here’s the list.

1.Changed all fluids
2.Redesigned and modified the exhaust system
3.Fix a few vacuum leaks
4.Removed flaps and control motor
5.Replaced cooling sensor (rad. Fans)
6.Verified\checked water temp gauge
7.Installed a new lower spoiler
8.Replaced one horn
9.Rewired stereo speakers (Look out Oscar )
10.T-belt retention
11.Replaced injectors
12.Reset fuel pressure
13.Replaced H-5/9004 (us standard) bulbs with 80/100 H-5\9004 bulbs
14.Adjusted headlights
15.Replaced fog\driving light assemblies (didn’t have time to adjust them right)
16.Replaced H-3 55watt driving light bulbs with 100 watt H-3 bulbs
17.Replaced H-3 55watt fog light bulbs with 85watt amber H-3 bulbs

Cool

Max,

I noticed in your list of things you have just finished that you have replaced your fog/driving lights with the higher wattage units (and the amber ones too) all around. Have you noticed any electrical problems (blown fuses, hot wires, etc.) because of this ?

I have just replaced my lights with new lenses (Stongard equipped...) and reflectors and am thinking of putting in the exact same setup as you.

Rob to be honest, I have not checked for hot wires, but I haven’t blown any fuses either.
At an idle with all lights on and in the high position (570watts total) at an idle I can see the alternator is working to keep up (measurement unknown, factory gauge is not a very accurate tool). When out on the road it's no big deal, I didn’t see much difference if any at all.
With amber coated bulbs, you will most likely only use them for fog, running around town with you bright lights on will be infrequent, so if you think about it, you’re normal in town driving on low beam is only a 30-50 watts increase which should be ok for most.

In 1990 Porsche switched the crankshaft pulley and the Poly-ribbed belt on the S4’s to speed up the alternator, so if you do a lot of in town driving and run low on battery power, you may want to look closer into the pulley and belt conversion. I will be adding a few more electrical items and will be looking closer at this conversion for myself soon.

Curtis & Don-
Just thought you'd like to know I'm sitting down to the last piece of that buttermilk chess pie from Roynes , and thinking of that grilled mango mustard shrimp BLT.
Cheers,
Donald
