Post Hood switch and ground point

When I have the parking lights on and the hood open, the hood light is illuminated. If I push the hood switch (on the right side, right next to the cross brace), the hood light does not go out. Should it?

I checked the switch with a multimeter and it is working (switch is closed when hood is open and vice versa).

I am concerned about the switch as I recall reading that it also controls fan run-on after ignition is switched off - fans will not run if the system thinks that the hood is open.

Another question: Attached to the right side engine lift point is a grounding cable. On my car the other end of the cable is not attached anywhere, the cable is hanging loose. I could not find where it should be attached, somewhere to the body I suppose? There is a lot of lines and hoses in the area near the lift point making it difficult to find where it should be attached.

Thanks for any help.

Best regards,

Niklas,
The switch is build into the lamp, i.e. when the hood is open the switch is on, and when the hood is closed the switch is off

The hood switch is a mercury switch, basically there is a small tube with mercury in it which makes a connection so when the hood is lifted the light is on, if you close the hood slowly you will see the light go out when the mercury flows away from the contacts.

Quite clever really

of course you meant the hood light itself has a mercury switch in it, not that the hood switch is a mercury switch...

Now that sounds like a pretty neat way to do it! No wonder I couldn't figure it out. Thanks for the info.

Anybody got an answer to my other question, the location where the other end of the grounding cable on the right side of the engine is to be attached?

Best regards,

Somewhat tought to access then, huh? I must say that removing it from the engine lift point and reattaching it when doing the T-belt already was a quite a challenge... Like I spent an hour trying to get it back there with all those hoses in the way.
