Default Now for something completely different (backwards starter motor - RV)

I am working on a 85 928 auto 32 valve, I was under the car chasing a elex gremlin, sometimes she`s a charging and sometimes she`s a not.
Anyway as I was tracing wires I got to the starter and lo and behold the solenoid is facing the left exhaust manifold as well as the harness being routed above the starter to make the connections , I plan on removing the starter and turning it around,so the solenoid faces the oil pan.
Has anyone ever seen this before???
Could the starter be from a different application.?
Before you ask I dont have any pictures but i will take some later. Thanks for your thoughts, Stan

The trainers of the Lama's who made that starter have been sacked...

Was the front housing removed at some point and put on backwards after a rebuild?

Which side is the starter on in a RHD car? Are they reversed?

I can't recall that the starter mounting would allow for reversibility. Nor can I see how the orientation would effect any change.

However, you are da guru, not me.

I'm having trouble even picturing that in my mind Stan, I'm looking forward to a photo.

Yes. When I saw it, it was with one of the lighter weight non-stock starters that some of the track cars use.
