Post 2 Electrical problems!

My 928 was standing for a couple of years. When we finally goto work and fixed the mechanical problems there were several electrical problems. To date everything is fixed apart from two systems, the Reversing Lights and the mirrors

i have a 1982 manual Euro 4664cc, these circuits must have something in common but I cannot find this one. When I started virtually nothing electrical worked now I am only left with these two

Anyone had a similar problem!

help appreciated

Thanks

Jack,

I just recently fixed those same two electrical gremlins. First I went down Wallys' List of Electrical maintenance. Cleaned all my grounds and connectors, worked and tested fuses and relays. But still had those two problems. Fixed the mirrors with new switch. And fixed my back-up lights by finally getting the stuck corroded bulbs from their sockets, replaceing them and thoroughly cleaning the sockets and associated wiring. And now I have light! Also as an added bonus my red door marker lights started working too.
<img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> and good luck!

I tested the bulbs and they were fine as were the grounds on the rear. The door lights work as do the windows and central locking. There is power to the switch and there seems to be power to the line to the mirror.

Do they have a seperate earth on the mirror that I missed?

I am confused because the rear lights all work apart from the reversing lights and the earths are Ok.

I changed the relay, made no difference and the fuse is Ok.

I will go and check the wiring to the gearbox and se if the circuit closes in reverse

Check the wire connectors under the black plastic cover in the spare tire well. I had similar problem trhat manifested itself as no reverse lights and PRND32 lights did not work. I resoldered the connectors and solved that problem.

I resoldered all the wires in the two connector blocks in the spare tirewell. One block has a connector that joins a brown and brown and yellow wire and the red and grey wire connects to nothing. The other block has 4 wires which I also resolvered both side of, checked continuity with a meter but no change at all. No reversing lights.

Every other light on the car works so do all the circuits apart from the mirrors, seems crazy now but I must have missed something basic?!
