Wanted: RED GT or 5spd GTS w/BLK Interior
#16
Brent is right. Helmut the Hammer has totally different personality than the Auto. However I would consider a GTS with an auto, especially at 21k. But that 91 GT with grey interior would be a much better compromise.

There's a world of difference between the experience of driving an AT and a 5 speed. Neither one is "better", they're just different. Some of us, myself included, wouldn't have a 928 if they didn't come with 5 speeds. You might as well try to convince us to try a Buick.

Don't make any compromises on your color or transmission choice.
It is indeed a rather rare combination but that makes it only more interesting.

NOW you all know why I was so careful to stress that I wanted a manual transmission!!
To me, driving an automatic is like:
Eating fine food with a bad cold; or
Watching the ocean through dirty windows; or
Making love with a ___ on your _____(you know where I was going)
Yep, there will be no compromise on this purchase. There are lots of RED GT's out there for me to find. Perhaps not a GTS, but I honestly prefer the look of the GT and if I want more displacement I'll have more $ left over for the Devek kit.
New owner came by last night, the car is officially his.
Please welcome Steve Smith whenever he starts posting and when you meet him at SITP.

My only complaint about the Auto is the inability to manually select 1st gear on a down shift (like going into a slow corner)It will stay in second until you either stop or drop to appx 17mph. If there was one more notch in the selector that said "1" id be very happy
Cruising along at 60, simultaneously floor it and drop the selector to 2 and my car leaps forward, no problem. Hit 6K drop it into 3...and keep going.
Very rarely does my selector stay in "D"
My next car will be a 5sp but for a track thrasher. I love the auto in the traffic here in town.

Okay, Seth, I was with you on the Red GTS but now you did it - making fun of my Automatic
The 4 speed automatic in my 928 is really awesome - not like other automatics.
Before I bought my 928, I test drove the newer 911s, Boxster S and if I wanted a 5/6 speed, I would have bought a 911! We all know the 928 is the grandest touring car and deserves an automatic.
Let the fun begin

Those of you who disagree with Seth and me are morally corrupt, <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> guilty of wrong-think, <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> probably child molesters, <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> and have questionable ancestry!! WE are RIGHT and YOU are WRONG! <img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" /> (IMHO)

Its now official, this thread has been hijacked into an auto vs. manual thread. : )
I just wish people would feel free to express their opinions around here! ; )

We will keep our eyes open for you Seth. I take a bit of travel for the right car is not an issue? What about importation? Might double your costs but would widen the area of search.

Congrats on the sale, Seth! Now the difficult part begins!!
Here's a nice GT:

Jerry ....if the 928 is the "grandest touring car" and you use it as a touring car ...high speed long distance . How many times would you be burdened by shifting the 5 speed ? Comparing 911s, Boxsters ,and 928s ???? Might as well be comparing turkey , chicken , and beef . Personally I prefer the beef . The 911/993/996 have offered an automatic for many years so your decision to buy the 928 obviously was based on other factors . I would also comment that during the design and development of the 928 Porsche intended to build the best sports car fully expecting that the 911 would fall out of favor much as the 356 had when the better sports car 911 became available . In my opinion , those who think the 928 is a "touring car" simply have not driven it as a sports car , particularly on a race track running with other Porsche sports cars . Perhaps the fact that the 928 does it so well with so little drama may give the illusion that it is a bit slow .....

Rick:
Very funny! (I actually owned one of those!)
Instead of making jokes you should be out there looking in barns for unmolested cars!
Shane:
Dont want to import, dont want the hassle. Will purchase anywhere in the good old USofA.
