Figure $1,000 to $4,000 , buying an undrivable car is a HUGE gamble. The fix it yourself cost labor has no value is easily $2,500. With the engine out you might as well do the clutch etc. etc.....

No, it's a 32V engine if it's US spec.
I'd take $5000 off whatever you thought the car would have been worth in running condition. I would also look for every other possible thing wrong with it. The broken timing belt may be an indicator of bad or no maintenance, which may mean loads of other stuff needs work, and not just on the engine, which is going to have be yanked.

Don't worry, I won't poach it from you. It's getting too cold to sleep in the garage I tell my wife I bought a dead Porsche.

Correct it SHOULD have bent valves. It is very hard to remove the heads on an 85-86 in the car because they still used head studs which stick out from the block nearly three inches which traps the heads. The 87> cars use head bolts for that reason. So making this a runner involves pulling the engine....think skier double diamond run A few have unbolted the motor mounts and rolled the engine around to wiggle out the heads but that really seems like it is the hardest way

slow down... it may or may not have bent valves, would depend on the circumstances of the belt breaking
if it split while the car was at idle it may not have done any damage, the tranny is worth $1k so if you can get it for that I'd do it

In nearly 15 YEARS of doing this I can only remember two 32 valve cars which lost a belt without bending some valves and most seem to take out nearly all the valves but it is POSSIBLE just as it is possible to be dealt 4 Aces... Plus after the belt lets go most people crank the starter motor to see if it will start, the tow truck driver has to TRY , the guys at the repair shop try to start it ,,,,,so the pistons are moving up and down and those valves which are open get munched.
