No Problem. Sometimes a little pressure helps to motivate me in a better direction, or even any direction.

Indeed I too did not realise my request was putting any stress on you personally. This should be a hobby, not another "must do". So please take it easy. No pressure

Sometimes a hobby is a must do, particularly when the alternative is something else that wants to fight back.

I didn't take either of you guys' posts as pressure, but rather just interest of a particular sort. My hobby is trying to devise and fabricate some of the things for the 928 and the 928 community that are of some interest and benefit in general. Sometimes I find myself pursuing something that turns out to be of little or no benefit or interest, so I usually go on to something else. When there turns out to be a need is a time when I might get back to something I had sort of left behind.

On the other hand I have heard that unfinished projects is a character defect, and I have an abundance of that.

Kiwi's car is a 79 (from his sig anyway), and it may have a different pawl from those most of us know and love.
In case I havent posted it before, here is an early pawl I replaced for a local a few years ago. Its a much simpler part, with a very soft looking engagement tooth -very little angle on it. Makes me wonder if the outer white part has the same teeth as later models. No change in thickness as in later units. The back part at the spring (left end)has broken off as usual - the crack is visible where I have glued for the picture. Waiting on pics from Kiwi to see if he can use an early version of my pawls - hand made in CF.

Well I think everything happens in its own time, so do what you need to do Jerry and pace this as appropriate - nobody's car is down due to a broken pawl so not generally urgent!

I do suggest you set up a new thread anticipating this (whenever) and start gathering a new list. Makes no sense to tack it onto the end of this thread as this series won't be that relevant to yours - e.g. you will have your own procedures for pricing shipping etc and the product and materials are different. We can add a link in the last page here to your new thread as a feeder and suggest new correspondence there.

Randy wants to take the last pawl I have - so we are done here - end of an era!

Jerry the run rate has been probably 5-10 per year - not so many, maybe it will be more for you with fully finished ones - but it's still a lot of work to swap these out anyway...

Biggest thanks go to jp for making it possible!

Hope this is not viewed as a thread hijack, I have added pics so hopefully that's my sweetener...

Anyway with much help from JP (thanks again!!) turns out my Gas cap is fine!!! My filler tube is "offset" due to the tank being removed by PO to repair a leak, my gas cap won't fit accordingly, I incorrectly assumed it was broken (PO used a rubber cap instead).

That was fun...

Pawl in...

Pawl out!!!

Offset filler tube, with cap fully assembled I cannot screw it over tube, red outer rubs hard against the body, will sort that tonight after work, thanks for the link on the tank JP.

Weird, I just stumbled onto my gas cap key I didn't know I had and went out to test. Mine doesn't lock, so I came in to search and this is the top thread! How do I get it apart?

Do a search through this thread for pics and hints. The red outer has 3 'barbs' that slip over a ridge on the white inner - these need to be pried clear of the ridge to get the red off the white. Usually takes 3 blunt knife blades and 4 hands, with maybe some softening of the red part with hot water or a heat gun.

G'day, I used three blunt table knives, I found that the pressure of the red outer would hold the knives in place over the flanges with a little heat from a gun on the third (applied outside the cover) I could pry away the third flange whilst very carefully levering the white inner upwards , it then just popped above the flange , it took me about 5 minutes of juggling from start to finish.

As has been suggested in this thread, I found the red outer remarkably pliable (famous last words...)

I was told also to leave the key in the lock, by pressing down carefully as you clear the last flange, the red outer will fly off easily.
