WELL! gee, the only thing left to do is have Tim verify the Data
Sub 12sec 1/4mi !!
100mph in under 8sec!
Im sure they do a friday night drags in the Chicago area, heck, a Gtech would work.
I bet those numbers you came up with would be pretty close. It would turn a few heads at the drag strip i bet!
Got any "street" numbers Tim?

I think Car and Driver recorded a Porsche GT 2 time of 11.9.
On the track, the handling characteristics of a 520+ hp 928 are probably far less frightening than a GT2. Of course there's more to the newer Porsche cars than just hp.

Ok, just looked through an April 2003 Road & Track with a test of the 2003 Dodge Viper Vs the 2003 Viper Competition coupe. The numbers on those cars are as follows:
SRT10-3390lbs, 500bhp/525lb-ft, 12.2@119.6mph
Comp-2995lbs, 520bhp/540lb-ft, 11.7@122.9mph
Judging by the ratio numbers on the drivetrains as listed in R&T both cars probably went through the traps in 3rd gear.
Just for comparison, not a flame war. R&T was only running these two cars against each other and I happened to pick up the magazine on the way to the....conference room.

Keep in mind, a 2002 GTS Coupe is running 335/30-18 rear tires. I've only seen one 928 with tires that size. Off the line, that is a lot of rubber on the road.

John, before you wager too many duckets against a Z06's consider this. The Z06 is 600 pounds lighter and has infinitely superior gearing. Along with a better clutch & suspension.

Why are we always comparing our 928's to Z06's? I think most of us could have a 06 if we wanted.
Ask Derek86.5 why he traded in a new Vette for an almost 20 year old shark! The same reasons that most of us didn't buy one in the first place.
Fast is one thing, but if you're driving the car a lot, all those squeaks and rattles start getting to you after awhile. The 928 is solid. 20 years down the road and it is still solid.

Not Vette bashing in the least just passing on someone elses observation ... Richard Burnes (of Rallying fame) took one for a test drive, evidently intrigued by its high top speed and cheap $$, after pushing the envelope of its top speed capability he hastily returned the keys. Going fast is one thing, how it goes fast is another ....

1. What Chris said is true. Daily driving that vette became quite tiresome after about a year and a half...daily driving the shark is a dream, three years and counting.
2. I just love how level headed Jim's input ALWAYS is. You can always count on him for the least bit of subjectivity and the most objectivity in his statements. Jim, you're cool.
3. Thank you Tim, Andy K., Eric D., Marcus H., Delta P, John, Mark A., Devek, and everyone who is contributing to further the performance of our sharks. These efforts provide the 928 community with the motivation, knowledge, and ability to keep our sharks running at respectable numbers. Cheers to you all in our continued pursuit and development of this fine car.
Sorry for the lack of gossip to contribute.

Carlos, I knew you would be back...superior gearing? Whatever... You know I love giving you *hit.
Tim,
Regarding the L-Jetronic. I am in the process of some development work here. I have opted to go with a Split Second PSC along with a MAF hot wire sensor. I'll be running 914 injectors at about 60-70 psig. The split second unit allows you to intercept and gain modify the 0-5 volt output from the new MAF. These are 8 volt systems, so it is tricky. This has been done in the past and Mark at Split Second could answer questions.
You could also just install larger injectors and turn down the spring in the old AFM, but doing this makes the mixture not quite right. My car had this along with a Callway Microfueler....two stand alone injectors...these things make hot spots!
Ignition is easy, since you have a stand alone distributor. My vacuum retard is disconnected and my vacuum advance acts as a pressure retard under boost. I'll be modifying the distributor for a total timing of about 18-20 BTDC at 14 psig.
We should talk sometime. I figured the fuel pump in my car was good for about 450 HP at 60 PSI. I have a Bosch Motorsports pump in the dining room just waiting. It delivers enough fuel to support 500 HP at 100 psi. It should be enough to support over 600 HP at lower pressures. I did not want to risk starving the engine with the stock pump at those higher fuel pressures. My injectors will be about 38 lbs/hr at that pressure. It is a 350 cc/min injector in the 914, which only runs at 28 psig.

It took me a few messages before I realized how old this thread was.
Maybe JD needs to implement a feature that automatically restyles these old threads with cobwebs or something to make it more obvious how old they are.
