Default Ball/Socket throttle rod failure

The ball and socket pull rod between the throttle bracket and throttle body almost left me stranded on my way home from work last night. As I took off from a stoplight i felt a pop and the gas pedal went to the floor. The socket on the front of the rod where it connects to the three-way throttle arm had completely worn out. The other ball and socket ends have steel pins that insert in the side of the socket that will retain the joint when it becomes worn, this one did not.

I was able put the socket back onto the ball and feather it home and the part is now on order from 928Intl. I find it strange that this joint didn't have a retainer pin like the others. I guess these should be lubricated from time to time.
