Post Reflections.......a year gone by

Greetings everyone.

I am now sitting here in Norway, it is -5*F outside, the ground is covered by virgin snow, enjoying a glass of wine(Italian), dark outside, candlelight inside, jazz on the radio, single malt and a good cigar(not cuban)later on, the 928 safely parked in the garage. What could be better?

I have had my 928 almost exactely for a year.
Back in 1998 I was looking to buy a new car, not a Porsche.
Strolling through all dealers here in Oslo, I came across this beautiful '79 928, I fell flat on my ***.

I'll take it...under certain conditions.

One was to have it checked by one of the two Porsche dealers here in Norway.
No problem the man said. Turned out to be a rotten fish, not a shark. Main problem...low compression in two cylinders. plus some other things.
Thank You but no thank You. Got a BMW 525 instead.
After some time I was thinkig of getting hold of a turbo 911, love those cars. I was at that time engaged with a beautiful girl that, once upon a time, was dumped by a guy driving a 911. Getting a 911 was totally out of the question.
Then, December a year ago. I went along with a buddy of mine, who was lookig for a new car.

Hold me tight, there it was. The 928 from 98.

The dealer came over: You gentlemen interested in a shark? of course...but not a rotten fish. He then pulled out all the documentation for work done to the car the past two years. Main thing....a "new" '82 928s engine, new interior, plus ,plus.

No rotten fish. I'll take it.

My plan was to give myself the keys during X-mas gift openings. Glad I did not do that.
Documetation, taxes, registration and all that was taken care of i the beginning of Jan '01.

I did not really dare to tell the fiance.

I got the car, made a really nice evening for my girl, dinner, wine, drinks and dance.
Then..the time was there..I took her out to the garage. She EXPLODED..did not talk to me the first week..did not put out for a month.
Eventually we broke the engagement off.
She despised that car.

I am still looking at my 928 as I did that day back in '98, love that car.

After a year of driving it, as the only car, in all kind of conditions, I am suprised how well it handles, especially at winter time.
Norway has snow and ice on the ground from Nov. through Apr. Handles a lot better than the 525.
Of course I have studless snowtires during winter season, 225X16.

I have had close to 0 problems (with the 928) this past year. Changed the theromstat, a stabilizer link(??), new starter, oil change 3 times and regular service.I have some problems with the tranny right now, but, I hope the advice I am getting from Steve C. will take care of that. I found something on WWW.jacquemonde.com that could be of interest. We shall see...maybe next year.

Having a single malt, a good cigar(not Cuban), my date is coming over for dinner, 928 safely parked in the garage. What could be better?

It has been a good year.

Hoyo (de Monterrey?),

I perused your philosophical waxings while smoking a cigar (Trinidad - yes, Cuban).

Not only is it a great handling automobile, but on occasion, the 928 also appears to be instrumental in selecting a compatible companion!

Enjoy!

The only thing better than that: Parking the Shark inside where you can see it, the glass of wine and the candle!!

Wink

A candle?
My cigar? A Churchill - thought they stopped making them -. Some Jack - Black -, or high octane Turkey. So, I'm a peasant. A happy peasant.
Norway in the winter, just slit your wrists and get it over with...
That place is SOoooo damn cold the gas you used to have in your shocks leaves via the shrunken seals.
Hoyo, there are a lot of tall beautiful women up there so why aren't there zillions of Norwegians? What with the weather being what it is I'd be doing a lot of undercover work this time of the year.
Enjoy yourself,
John S.

HdM's..fine cigars...but..
have You experienced the Davidoff's?
Makes you look at the world with renewed interest.
Was planning on doing the filter and oil on my tranny today.Wrong parts they mailed me.
Maybe to crawl back upstairs for the undercover work?
It is no secret that most Norwegians are born late summer or falltime.

Happy new year..
