Bad S4 needs a new battery. Is a Porsche battery the way to go?Any other recommendations.I have read many old posts that don't address new battery models now available.928 Brothers reccommend the Die-Hard International in the Gretzy99 post "Battery Problems....I hope!!"

My 18 month old Porsche Battery died just this month. After all the posts I read on Interstate I went and bought one for less than $100.
Here is the link, it was MTP-91. It has the 2nd most cranking amps and more than the Porsche battery I had. There is another that I didnt look at it, but I dont think the it (mtp-93) will even fit.

Bad,
Interstate MTP-91 is what Gretz and I have.
Then again we are both having problems...
Interstate replaced his - defective -, mine I believe was /is related to drain issues.
I believe the '91'is cheaper than the Die Hard and has more cold crank amps than stock. They also make one with the stock amperage for less. Both fit comfortably in the Batt. box. I wish there was batt. cut off switch that was external to the box as that will be my last option if I don't isolate the drain.
HTH/LOL
Keep em'rolling.

Thanks JS & PC
Does the MTP-91 include the + terminal cover?
Also will a cut-off switch fit in the battery
well or should I spring for a battery maintainer as my car is not driven as much as I would like.

Bad,
Definitly, came with the cover.
From what I'm looking at the cut off switch will fit with room to spare.
However, it gets to be a drag putting the charger on every other day - my situation -and the way I look at it you have to pull everything in the tire bay to get to the battery so you have to ask yourself if you want to do this to turn a switch on/off on a regular basis. I'm not sure how the maitainer is wired in , but it would probably be easier. If I am correct in thinking it is basically a trickle charger with some long thin leads. The switch is fairly cheap $7.00 - $12.00.

Thanks JS
I think I'll go for the Die-Hard as Sears is nearby and their website gave me a model #.
I will also spring for the battery maintainer which as you say may be easier to deal with than a cut off switch. In my research I found that auto storage batteries DO NOT like to be drained completely and that most can only endure this 5 or 6 times before they become weak.Hence the rationale of the maintainer.
Thanks to all again,

Bad, thanks for the comment on my 928. I agree with ED, the Interstate comes highly recommended by many 928 owners.
It came with a cover too.
You know you can charge your car from the engine by going to the jump start terminal. I have connected my trickle here and even jumped the car from here when I was having battery problems.
It is number 1 in the picture by Tony.

I run Optima red top's in our Rover's and will switch to an Optima as soon as the current battery let's me down for the last time. The Optima's can handle all of the lights, winching etc... that we've done. I've never owned a better battery.

Ever since I bought Bad S4 I have read that electrical and computer problems can stem from jump-starting or charging the battery while it is still in the car.So I remove it and charge it when it goes dead. Thanks Jerry
for the photo and yes I know about the + terminal under the hood but was afraid to use it.What model Optima will fit the Shark?
Does anyone use Optima?
Thanx

Bad, I thought you knew about the + Terminal but showed the picture just in case.
I have used the + terminal many times with no issue. I ran my battery charger at 2 amps many times using it.
Just this month when my battery went dead, my 928 friend brought over his portable battery jumper ($69 at walmart). I was kinda worried about jumping it but he said it would not cause a problem. So he connected it to the + terminal and it started right up.
He said I shouldnt have been worried that the problems only come from connecting them up wrong.
This probably wont sway you into not removing your battery but just thought I would share my experience.
