Post CV Boot size

......When I was putting the new suspension stuff the other week, I noticed that the CV boots were not properly secured. (translated, done wrong).

On the outer boots (wheel sides), the ends are literally inside touching the cv. One thing I did notice was that the diameter of the boot end was much smaller than what it appears it needs to fit over.

Question. Is that normal (ie. I could have the right boots.....they actually look fine as for wear) and its just a stretching operation to install. Or, is the fit of the CV boot, lets say 1/4" max smaller and it pops over the ends. If they are correct I need new bands and to remount.

(I hate to say it but the PO stories just seem to mount day-by-day. How much time does it take to do the job right...?.......sample. I had a pad warning light go off on occasion, when I know the brakes are just about new. What I found was the sensor wire against what should be where the grommet is mounted on the disk area. How much time would it have taken to finesse the little gromet into the slot.....)

I have an '81 also that has this condition. Ordered boot kit for an '81, did not fit, boot way to small. Talked to Devek about it. They were perplexed as well. Tried a kit for much later model year(can't remember what year) and it fit inside the hub flange, as yours does. All three other boots are good and are installed correctly, they appear to be orginal. The diameter boot needed is 2 3/4". Devek could not find any boot kit for any year that was that size. Anyone else out there have/had this problem?
