Should Carpet Color Match Upholstery?

Most 928s seem have carpeting that matches the upholstery and door panel insets. My leather is light gray, as is the carpet. Dash/console are black. I'm considering replacing the carpet with a deep black sliverknit. I've seen a few cars on Ebay with similar color schemes and they look pretty sharp. Were different color (from the seats and door panels) carpets available from the factory or would this have to have been done by an owner?

On most 928's I would say the dark-light combo works best...like the black-tan I have....I've also seen dark blue-light grey work well.......the only ones that seem to pull off the one tone are black, & classic grey..however I have seen some custom 928's with an almost all tan interior like Tom Sellecks old car (except black carpet) that look really good too

The PO of my '91 GT ordered black mats with cashmere embroidery. The mats are a great contrast with the cashmere interior in my opinion, since the dash, console and exterior are black as well.
