I'm curious who is using their 928 as a daily driver and how far your daily drive is.
I just started a job with a 600 mile/week drive and I've been alternating beetween my Ranger truck and the 928. I'd love to drive the 928 every day but I'm seriously thinking about getting a high MPG car with gas prices so high in the SF area.

I use my car as a daily driver. My commute is short--15 miles or so. I think I log ~200-300 miles/week on my car, so it's fairly common. It's got 180k on the clock, so I'm not concerned about keeping it low...

I did use her as a daily 140 km commute for a few years.
That is the only way I could handle the travel time was by that great vehicle.
NOW, 4.5 years have passed and I am back commuting the same distance in a 05 PT GT cruiser convert which gets less gas mileage and by-GOD it is a chore to drive the distance.
Sadly the car is parked due to being a money pit.
If I could afford all the fixins to her I'd get rid of the chrysler and drive my ol 10 year girl always.

My new (to me) 91 GT has been my DD all summer, 45 miles round trip per day, nearly all highway. Averaging 18MPG highway. However, the car in pristine condition and the mileage is going on too quickly, having just rolled 50,000 original miles.
I think I would enjoy driving it much more as a pleasure car than daily driver -- I also never intended to drive it in the winter so I'm looking at my options now. I had originally been planning on a used Carrera and probably would not have minded putting the mileage on it as much as I do on this great shark.
Good luck with your decision.

Mine is a DD, but my commute is only back and forth to the train station <3 miles round trip per day. I don't know if that counts, it's barely enough to warm it up.

Both of ours are DD's but I drive the truck on the odd days that I don't want one of the 928's on the road. Ang's round trip is around 70 miles a day and mine is just over 60 miles. I've got 162k on the '88 and 125k on the '90. Now if we had a lower mileage 928, I'd try to keep it that way, but these cars are made to be driven.

Michelin used to use these cars for tire testing, and called them ''million mile cars''.
I personally think they like to be driven, and run better when driven regularly. I drove my OB beater to work through the summer, and boy is it a happy camper. 80 + miles a day. Much better gas mileage than my truck, so it is all relative.

I DD mine for 5 years, put 75K miles on her. Most reliable car I ever owned . . and fun.
My Mazda3 took over the job and gets a bit more in the gas mileage area.. 35+mpg

I'm retired and we don't put many miles on in any case, but the 928 has its snows on now - it is a year 'round car. If it didn't have 4 (sort of) seats we'd have a Corvette - a 928 is nearly practical for the driver who likes odd-ball stuff. It seems to be more reliable than our Merkurs (an even more odd ball daily driver). Teaching my 15.5 year old son to drive it now. Most stuff more-or-less works on the car. I've never had to start it at -10 F or less as yet - any input on this? The shifting is pretty bad when cold. The heat isn't the best, but the Merkurs are poor also (heater cores clog). The 928 is fair to good on maintained, but snowy streets (LSD, nice and heavy). My w/shield washers are out - I have not checked what's up, but I'm not happy as the pump looks near impossible to even find, much less fix. So over 2 years it hasn't faced the ultimate tests - -10 F or worse or 6 inches plus of heavy snow - the last 2 winters have been milder than average.

For the last 6 years I've owned the 928, I've only used it as a weekend car and averaged around 3,000 - 4,000 miles a year. I don't mind putting all the mileage on the 928 which is at 91,000 now. I just really never paid that much attention to gas prices - the cost wasn't noticeable with my old short commute. But now after one month on the new commute, it's like I'm throwing away a lot of money on gas. The Ranger doesn't even get that much better gas mileage although I can use Regular gas in it so that makes the difference. I think I scared myself over the weekend by doing the math on the cost per mile between some of the new cars that get the 35-40 mpg. I have to say that the drive is soooo much easier (obviously) with the 928. I get there and I'm not tired, I get home and I'm not tired. With the ranger, it's like I can't relax the whole time I'm driving.

Semi-retired, travel for consulting work so no real commuting. Still the 928 gets almost all the Home Depot/grocery store/Costco/etc driving I do. 6k a year +/-. I put more miles on rental cars than I do the 928, more miles on airplanes than in cars. Car was made to be driven. I worry about casual damage to it so it is always parked carefully, so far so good!
