Post Oil leak on from "hole" in head

My son just found an oil leak on his '82 5spd (110K miles) and I'm not sure what's causing it. The oil is coming from a square "hole" on the driver's side head located between and outboard of plugs for 6 and 7...more or less center of the head. When he rev's the engine, he can see oil 'frothing' out of this hole....none out of the similar hole on the passenger side head. Anybody know what would cause this and what needs to be done to fix it? I don't see anything on PET or in the shop manuals but may have missed it.

thanks,
Jim

Jim,
This hole has no connection to anywhere - That's only a hole with bottom.
Try to empty the hole and see what happen

PS: Do you have the driver side in the right side of the car?

Erik,
Left hand drive car. I'm not sure where the oil is coming from if there's no connection anywhere. I'll empty it out and take another look. Even if it was a bad head gasket, there shouldn't be oil, right?

Jim.
Has me curious... But, it's after 12am here and can you believe it, raining with a 20 deg. temp. drop. I'll check it out tomorrow, promise.

Jim,
You are right about the driver side and the cylinder numbers - I 'mixed-up' sorry!
I am looking forwards to hear the result of your investigation
