Is it just me - or does there seem to be a sudden 'spike' in interest of 928's....lot's of non-Porsche owners posting ???'s about cars they are interested in...and a LOT of 944 owners posting, too?
(Did I miss it - was there a recent "Risky Business" marathon on TNT or something???)
With some S-4 cars for sale for 10k or less there are a lot more people who have the cash to pick up one "for fun" . The lower the prices the larger the market tends to be . Those who have "always wanted one" can realize their dream . I just spoke with a guy in Texas he found an 84 for $600 .....not running but $600.....now he plans to fix it !
If it doen't run, it will probably take a relay or sensor to get it going again. Then all the belts will pop, all the hoses will leak and he'll know Jim, and Dave and Susan, Wally by first name like we all do now. Someone has to keep these things alive. Gotta love it.
Last week I ordered some parts and asked Jeannie how the 928 supply business was going, She said it was OK, but Porsche was discontinuing critical parts like tensioner boots! I almost fell off my chair. What can ya do about that? - Ruf
This is actually my first venture to the 928 board. I frequent the 911/964/993/996 boards pretty regularly and I am the owner of a 993 C4S, former owner of a 964 cab and 924.
I have not had any direct exposure with the 928 but just saw one on the freeway here in SoCal that has prompted me to visit. Man, that 928S4 was clean. Black, dropped with a nice set of wheels.
adscab911 Welcome! But now you're in the "den" and must tell us what 911 owners really say about us behind our backs. We know they're jeleous, 'cause ours are bigger and longer but we won't go there... Just kidding of course - Ruf
Thanks for the welcome Rufus. Honestly, "us" 993 guys (actually all 911 guys) really do not talk about the 928/944/968 that much. Out topics seem to cover the 964, Boxster and most recently, the 996. For some fun, check out the 993 vs 996 thread in the 993 and 996 forums. First rate comedy!
The 911 vs. all others reminds me of a story. Some PCA members where lucky enough to get a close-up look at a 917 (or maybe a 962) with the bonnet up.
The 911 guys were all proud about the big fan on top, proving it was a true Porsche. A 944 owner looked at it, poked around a bit near the heads, saw a strange braided line going to and from them and proudly said. "Look, it has water in it. It's not a 'real' one!" - Ruf
I used to have an '85 "Euro" and still miss the rumble. I come here the same way one might keep thinking about an old girlfriend that maybe one shouldn't have left just because times were a little hard.
