Rear axle nut torque spec, what lube?

Hello all, 10/31/07
I’m on the re-assemble side of putting rear wheel bearings in my 81’ 928 5 speed. With a torque spec as (seemingly) critical as that of the M22 x 1.5 axle nut (~ 340 ft-lbs) I’m surprised there’s no recommendation on the state of lubrication, e.g., clean un-lubricated, lightly oiled, slobbered with never-seaze, etc. The lubrication, and hence friction in the thread, greatly influences the clamping force a given torque value produces. Has anyone come across a Porsche recommendation on what (if any) lube to use on the axle / axle nut? – Thanks - Chubahkah

Installing
1. Run axle shaft into wheel hub on wheel end (lubricate splines and threads with Optimoly HT).
2. Install socket head bolts on transmission end (axle shaft flange surfaces must not have grease).
3. Tighten socket head bolts to 83 Nm and selflocking nut to 460 Nm.
